  1. What do you think of Michael Johnson? He might fall to us. He reminds me of JT coming out. Not quite ready for the big time but good enough to get on the field and use his athletic ability to make plays until he develops.

Johnson could turn out to be another JT or Ware. His upside is huge and his bust meter is average. I don't think he's a boom or bust guy. At the least he'll be decent.

I know he played 4-3 DE but I think he'll be a better 3-4 OLB over time. It's a good time to develop an OLB like this. We still have Porter, Roth and the newly acquired Wake. Develop and replace from within.

  2. Funny you should ask, because just the other day I noticed him in the sort of stock down section of nfldraftscout (DS). DS calls it "Hot"' and "Not".

He was listed as the number one "not" so I clicked on him and they had nothing negative to say about him. The last entry was simply that he had decided not to play in the Senior Bowl.

See? I told you it affects your stock! Anyway, DS now has him listed as an early to mid 2nd round pick. I haven't seen him play (let's face it, who watches Georgia tech games?) but his size and speed show potential.

His positive/negative write-up is heavily skewed towards the negative however, stating that he is raw, unfinished product and basically one-dimensional. I can't argue with that since I haven't seen him play. Why any agent would read this stuff and elect not to send him to the Senior Bowl is beyond me.

  3. I DO think our weak LB core from 2008 could turn into our strength over the next several months with free agency and the draft. It would be nice to completely 'fix' one element of our team overnight (i.e. in one off-season) so we don't have to worry about it again for a few years.

I tend to agree with you that the Senior Bowl is imperative for prospects to raise their stock, but it makes me wonder about another NFL problem I see with player development: The Rookie Wall.

Anyone wonder how hard it would be for a rookie to go from a 12 game season to a 16 game season....oh and btw...all 16 games will be more grueling than ANY of the 12 games?

    Let's pile onto that the post season stuff...the senior bowl/showcase games...the combine...the pro days....the draft....the rookie camps...the QB camps....training camp....and 4 preseason games.

It's no wonder the term "rookie wall" is one every NFL fan is familiar with.

All that said, they make all their money before the draft, so I'd be trying to kill it if I were them.
