Dolphins home gets another new name

As the Miami Dolphins prepare to host yet another Super Bowl, the venue is getting yet another new name.
Terry Lefton of SportsBusiness Daily reports that the team will announce on Wednesday that Sun Life Financial has purchased the naming rights to the stadium previously known as Pro Player Park, Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, and Land Shark Stadium.
The five-year deal will pay out roughly $7.5 million per year.
The prior arrangement with Land Shark Lager was due to expire before the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl; thus, the name of the place where the two prime postseason games will be played immediately will become Sun Life Stadium.
Hey Florio, the Dolphins are not the ones hosting the Superbowl....what do you think is happening - is Channing Crowder going to passing out ouer d'ouvres and Henne will be taking coats at the door?
The stadium and the community are hosting it, not the pro-team that plays there. Or are the Hurricanes and Marlins also hosting it?

That name is not to bad. That is a good amount of cash for allowing them to put their company name on the stadium. 37.5m for 5 years.
ReplyDeleteYeah as far as things go, it could've been a lot worse than 'Sun Life
ReplyDeleteStadium'.
However, despite their Florida'esque name, the company is actually based in
Ontario, Canada, one of the least sunny places I can think of. Of course,
with all the canadian players, and Canadian sponsorship, how long before
it's called Labatt Blue Stadium?
That will be right after Ross sells the team as an expansion Canadian League team. The Ottowa Pikes anyone? LOL
ReplyDeleteAlso, did any of you guys realize that the CFL only has 8 teams? I went to check and see before I posted to make sure the city name I chose didn't already have a team and there are only 8!!!? what does every team make the playoffs? LOL!
Rockphin, there was a time not that long ago when the NFL only had 8 teams.
ReplyDeleteBased on the rate the Dolphins are getting players from the Great White North, Labatts isn't that much of a stretch.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I STILL can not get my avatar to not be the nekked guy on the raft....not that there's anything wrong with that, but I have tried this more than once...of all the ones for it to get 'stuck' on! lol
I could not watch the late game yesterday....I literally felt ill. So Go Colts next week!
herdfan, USF just hired your deposed head coach as our defensive
ReplyDeletecoordinator...any thoughts?
As pertains to your avatar, that is what you get for putting a naked man on
a raft for all to see, lol.
Mark Snyder? Oh my! Well, uh, good luck with that. I think I have said enough on the subject, and really, maybe he just isn't HC material? I think he was DC at Ohio State before his time with us, and I hear their team is usually pretty good....LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, did your defense suck under him?
ReplyDeleteAre you really going to take my word on it? lol Sometimes they looked good, sometimes they didn't, and it never seemed to have anything to do with the quality of the opponent. Frustrating. But that's the Herd for you! The Herd under Snyder never seemed to be able to get both sides going at the same time or to play for the whole game...for example, the total letdown against UCF this year when we were up by what seemed like an insurmountable lead only to collapse in the end. Too many games like that in my memory.
ReplyDeleteI hope Snyder does a great job for your Bulls...he's a Marshall alum, and aside from wanting him fired as our HC, I try to remain loyal to all of them. Besides, I don't want to hear about it from you and ffr if he isn't up to your standards! I still remember the Chris Crocker comments.... :(
