For the second week in a row, I had no computer/internet access at work thanks to the retarded IT department. By the way, if you're in to comedy, go out of your way to find 'The I.T. Crowd', a British sitcom that ran for a couple of seasons. Ok, enough TV suggestions, time for some football talk:
- Dolphins defensive lineman, Tony McDaniel, was arrested and charged with domestic violence over the weekend. I don't know the details, it could easily have been another pick-up basketball game gone wrong at his house. This could throw a spanner in the works of the off-season - imagine, McDaniel gets suspended, Ferguson retires, Soliai puts on 20 lbs....
- Speaking of football players arrested in South Florida, Donte Stallworth's suspension was lifted on Monday and he was immediately released by the Browns, making him the first big name unrestricted free agent of the year. Too bad his big name is for off the field news rather than on it. One thing is certain, he will not be picked up by Miami.
- It should be noted that when Chad Henne said he wanted someone like Braylon Edwards to join Miami this year, he had to stress that he meant someone like him, and not Edwards himself, or it could have been considered tampering in the eyes of an overzealous official. However, the Jets have not signed Edwards to an extension, which means they are likely to wait to see what kind of offers he gets. Edwards is about to become a restricted free agent. I think it's very likely that Miami will bid on him.
- During the Super Bowl, they aired a commercial (well, actually they aired about a thousand commercials) where Gibril Wilson got leapfrogged by Reggie Bush into the end zone in super slow motion. Forget 1-15, I think that was the single most embarrassing moment as a Dolfan - not the actual event/missed tackle, but the slow-motion whiff in the middle of the Super Bowl, which was probably watched by 300 million people. Can anyone out there top that moment? I suppose the loss to Jacksonville in the playoffs would be another one, but this was much more concise, about 1.5 seconds slowed down to a 30 second spot. Ouch!
- This is what Joey Porter would look like in a 49ers uniform:
I propose that we keep Joey on the roster, but let him wear a 49ers uniform. That way he can rush the passer, and he can pretend he's on a different team. Hmm...if he thinks Tony Sparano is too tough, wait til he gets Mike Singletary breathing down his neck.
Tin, I don't think 49's would take him. Know he wants to be on west coast, don't know if any team their wants him.
ReplyDeleteTin, I don't think 49's would take him. Know he wants to be on west coast, don't know if any team their wants him.
ReplyDeleteI thought what Reggie Bush did to Gibril Wilson was more a testament to Bush's athletic ability. Wilson was trying to cut him down with the shoulder and Bush leaped quite a bit of distance. Sometimes you tip your hat.
ReplyDeleteThe 62-7 loss to Jacksonville is easily the worst moment I've dealt with. It was the end of Marino's career, Jimmy Johnson leaves as head coach and recommends Wannstedt as his replacement, Huizenga goes for it and we end up with a good defensive coach but not a good head coach also playing GM which wasn't his strength either.
1-15 was bad but that 62-7 loss was a round-house kick to the face and the end of the Danny boy era.
Seattle could use Porter should Carroll want to go with a 3-4 defense. Porter could help set the tone for young LBs on how to play 3-4 OLB.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good year for hybrid edge rushers in the draft. Lots of guys with pure pass rush ability but need refinement at either DE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4 at the NFL level. We will draft one or two. With Wake in his 2nd year and bringing back JT and I think we will, along with allowing Anderson, Moses, Walden and Johnston to compete with the rooks, we'll find our OLBs without Porter.
Hey Knight, in jimmy's on words and I agree, I never want to see that again, on the Jacks lost.

ReplyDeleteBoth before and after the SB
Esp after with Saints win(as U & I predicted)
CBS announcers went out of their way to mention
How the Dolphins could have had Drew Brees but instead opted for Daunte Culpepper
That was pretty darn embarrassing as a Dolfan
They really enjoyed smearing that in our faces LOL
Quite a few teams new to the 3-4, they would see Porter differently-as a veteran to shore a position for 1-2 yrs. while they build...
ReplyDeleteI love how sports fans love to make themselves out to be prophets. :-D
ReplyDeleteAs bad as what Donte Stallworth was doing that morning "driving under the influence". He did a few things correct. He did not flee, he supplied aide to the victim, and he called police and cooperated during the entire process. I'm not defending him for what he did. What I am saying is his after the fact actions are what they should have been. He excepted the blame and never made an excuse for his actions.
ReplyDeleteKnight
ReplyDeleteSorry U picked the wrong team again
A simple congrats to the winners is more socially acceptable

Can a prophet be a sports fan?
ReplyDeleteCan a sports fan be a prophet?
Porter...Gone
ReplyDeleteJT...1 year deal (maybe 2)
Two stud LB in the draft
One stud NT and one Safety
One mid-round WR and TE
Other project players and....(wait for it)
An OL to push/replace Carey
You are right on Stallworth, Fang. However I don't think he's the type of WR we're looking for.
ReplyDeleteDolphins | J. Allen, Torbor may be asked to take pay cuts

Knight,
ReplyDeleteI could not have said it better myself. That play by Bush was pretty incredible. Sure I think Wilson was a terrible pickup & could be criticized for a multitude of reasons BUT come on Tins...
Oh please....that Jacksonville game was WAY more embarrassing!!! I remember turning the game on a little laye & it was already something insane like 28-0. Wannstadt's last season when he decided to unleash "the next Dan Marino" aka AJ Feely was also way worse. Outside of Camarillo's winning TD catch, the 1-15 season speaks for itself.
In addition I would also include Culpepper's first start as a Dolphin against the Steelers when Peezy & the rest of that defense absolutely humiliated us. We came into that game with BIG expectations after going 9-7 with Gus Frerrotte & the Steelers really stuck it to us. In Culpepper's defense he was not even close to be 100% but then again either was Drew Brees right? LOL!!!
Jason Allen MAY be asked to take a pay cut??? Why??? b/c he was a first round pick & has been primarily relegated to a special teams player??? Time to cut bait with him & Ginn. Outside of Reggie Bush, these are definitely two of the most overpaid players in the league.
ReplyDeleteFang,
ReplyDeleteAside from everything off the field, which would be a PR nightmare for the Dolphins, Donte Stallworth had a terrible season for the Browns. I believe he had 17 catches for the season. I really don't see the upside by signing him.
Fang,
ReplyDeleteToo close to home since Stallworth killed a local Miami man.
<span><span>"For the second week in a row, I had no computer/internet access at work thanks to the retarded IT department."</span></span>
ReplyDeletei see you have the same IT department as the SS
uh oh, someone's grumpy! lol
ReplyDeleteI saw the heading at the SS that they were switching over the blog...I think it was yesterday, but for all I know it's been up for a few days. Wasn't it this time last year that it got really screwed up there?
<span><span>"Edwards is about to become a restricted free agent. I think it's very likely that Miami will bid on him."</span></span>
ReplyDeleteTins,
Since he's going to be a "restricted" free agent, what draft picks would we have to give up to get him?
I don't view Edwards as an elite WR. Is he better than anyone we have? Absolutely but he drops way too many balls. It's a long shot but I would much rather get Vincent Jackson or even Miles Austin who Parcells knows. However if not for any other reason we should still drive the price up on Edwards so the Jets have to overpay.
All of you are correct, and I don't see him playing down either. I actually think we may have a #1 guy in Hartline. If you project his numbers into a full time status, he has the stats to compare to most of the big time wide outs in this league.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they find a big guy that can get on the field in those 3rd and 5 situations. I see little to worry about in finding a need for a go to guy. Mostly because Miami substitutes their players according to the situation that presents itself.
The lip smackers tell us we need a #1 guy, and that would be true if we wanted to be passing team. I don't think that is the case down here. The Dolphins want to control the time on the field with there offense, and not get into shoot outs. The fans may want a shootout style offense but the management I don't think wants that.
Braylon Edwards is in the same boat as Ronnie Brown. I wouldn't give up any draft compensation for Edwards. He's talented but very inconsistent.
ReplyDeleteYou guys don't like to read my whole statements, do you? I said I wasn't
ReplyDeletereferring to the play itself but the commercial.
The Jacksonville game was the worst but they didn't turn it into a poster, a
commercial or a ringtone did they?
For the 2nd day in a row I've had no internet....it may be working now but
who knows for how long....
I see you're using magic to go online. *DONT_KNOW*
ReplyDeleteWhat would a ringtone of the 62-7 Jacksonville loss sound like? $#@& %$#$##$#%$@@#! $%#@$ #%$@%$$%#%$%$#$$@% ^%##%#@$#@$%$#!!!!
you calling me grumpy?
ReplyDeletenot me, never grumpy here. how can i be with my 'new and improved' blow up dolls all over the place. LOL. yeah, i saw your post the other day about new and improved blow up dolls.
speaking of blowing, the ss has for a while now. omar kept promising a change but so far it is nothing but home talking to his 189 other personalities.
Chemtrails are now responsible for winter weather and snow in the Northeast. Not!
ReplyDeleteWe're about to get pounded overnight with possibly 12-18 inches. You like that ffr, you can go to town with that one. LOL
Those of us in the Northeast got spared by the recent snow storm that hit the Mid-Atlantic states and Southern and Central NJ. I didn't get a snow flake but we will this time.
JaMarcus Russell is clearly the most overpaid player.
ReplyDeleteI tried to find that story again, but who knows where it was. There was a picture and everything! I did however find this in case you guys are wondering to do with your women on Valentine's Day! Candy and Flowers are sooooo boring! ;)

Thanks Herdfan, but I'm not a 'South Florida' blogger, therefore I don't qualify under the rules.
ReplyDeleteYes you do...I read them, you have to be either a resident OR the blog has to have a South Florida connection/theme. It said they had to approve the nominees before they would be put on the list, you are now on the list, therefore I believe you must have met their stringent entry requirements.
ReplyDeleteNow we know what herd wants. LOL
ReplyDeleteoh, that's not what it said in the big print....maybe the small print said
ReplyDeleteotherwise?
With my luck, the $100 would be only valid at south florida
stores....anyways, thanks for the nomination....but I don't have to like,
plan the homecoming dance or anything if I win, do I?
Knight can you claify this statement for me...... "<span>Braylon Edwards is in the same boat as Ronnie Brown. I wouldn't give up any draft compensation for Edwards. He's talented but very inconsistent." I can't beleive you said that !!! I would expect that from me, but not you. </span>
ReplyDelete<span> Please expand on Ronnie Brown being very inconsistent. I still can't beleive you said that. Home is that you posing as Knight ??? </span> ;)
