Oh woe est moi...

This weekend the World Cup ended for most of us. The USA played brilliantly for about 30 minutes of a 120 minute game. England played possibly the worst defense ever played in a World Cup game - I'm still baffled by how John Terry could go from hero to zero in such a short span of time...I don't think I've ever seen anyone play that poorly, especially a team captain and veteran international player. Although, to be fair, he does have moments like that in a Chelsea uniform too. And don't get me started on the refs. The entire tournament has seemed like some sort of pre-planned result by the officials. Gotta get Argentina through, gotta get Germany through, gotta get one African team through...

Anyway, for England and USA fans, the ride is over - there's still some interesting games ahead, but we're only half interested now. Despite getting a lot of lucky calls go their way, I still think Argentina is the best team out there and expect them to face Spain in the semi-final which will in all essence, be the real championship game...a probable Brazil vs Netherlands quarterfinal is the only other game I think I'll watch in the next week.

As for American Football, the Dolphins are currently on vacation and/or engaged in community outreach programs and are not scheduled to be back in Davie until the start of Training Camp on July 30th. The training camp schedule has yet to be released but I'd suspect the first open practice will be the following Monday.

That means the following month will be almost completely Dolphins-news-less, other than a few contract signings, and any possible player arrests.

So in the interest of keeping things fun around here I thought we could throw out some fantasy news items (keep them NFL related, if not Dolphins related) a la The Onion.

I will post one such article tonight but please feel free to throw some fantasy headlines out there in the comments section!

1. tin,

we were having some good discusson on your other blog about the WC and Tim's desire to be behind some sheep. I hope you saw it.

UK,

While we were watching the US v Ghana game, I said, it i easy to fix the injury faking. I dont have a problem with going down to get a foul, that is part of the game, but it is the faking like you have been shot and 15 seconds later you are fine. Well, the easy fix, if you are hurt and the trainers have to come on the field, then they player must off the field for a time frame, any where from 5-15 minutes would work in my book.

Tin, that's a shame that officiating was so poor during a sporting event many people around the world were looking forward to.

3. Tin,
The wheels came off for Terry when he decided it was more important to shag Bridge's g/friend than be a decent father and husband and in short order lost the captaincy, other players respect and a lot of his self-esteem no matter how he fronts it any other way. When he said in a media interview "him and a few of the lads were having a clear the air meeting with Capello", it never happened. His England days are over if Capello stays. He's a Judas.
The FA is taking 2 weeks to "consider their options" on Capello after extending his contract by 2 years before the tournament to keep Inter Milan from sniffing around. If they release him, that will cost £12M. Ouch.

For the record, I bust on some of you about soccer for fun. I understand a lot of people enjoy it. To each their own. For instance, not everyone enjoys searching for shrubberies. One's that are nice and not too expensive. LOL

8. Here's the thing, as far as I'm concerned: I was all prepared to watch the World Cup, be interested, yada yada, but the officiating completely RUINED it for me. I have zero interest in it now. The point of this is, I don't think I'm alone in feeling this way and they have set soccer back years in the US because of it.

It's just you hear all the time how popular the sport is elsewhere in the world, and here is a chance to get the US on board and they have such a debacle with the officiating. How did you become such a fan ffr?

i became a fan like most people in this country who are fans, i played the sport. i started in playing around 19-20 years old. not like in this country we have a lot of football or baseball leagues 20 years olds can play in. There are several soccer leagues to join and play in. i started playing, did so till i was about 40 and then just couldn’t do it anymore.

14. Who is this FIFA anyway??? Is that some French Shite?

UK, I agree with some of the sentiment that it looked like the fix was in on some of these games.

Back to how this would work in America... First of all, I don't think the international community gives a rats ass about whether America ever takes to soccer. Forgive me UK, but if Americans actually put their mind to it there is no doubt we could dominate soccer because we just have more money to support more athletes.

History has a large part to do with why the game has not taken off. When America was populated by the world's immigrants, people played all kinds of different sports but one of the things that pulled this country together was the sports we made up ourselves using remnants from all the other peoples. There was no ethnic infighting over football, baseball or basketball because those sports were only played here and they were new to everyone. We all started from a common ground zero. Until WWWI and more so WWII America was an isolationist country and didn't get involved in anything, even the modern olympics didn't take off until the turn of the 20th century.

At this time soccer was still yet to become a world event but it was too late for us because we had our past time and American football and basketball were taking off. For several generations of Americans it was the big 3 with hockey trailing behind. It was not until the 60's when our country's youth decided to make love and not war did we see a shift principally because the other sports were to rough for little Johnny and the men in our country became women and the women became men. But the real athletes didn't care, soccer was for pussies.

It is more acceptable now, but there is too much money entrenched in the other sports and too many athletes whose family history is rooted in those games. Most of the soccer players in America today are recent immagrants, but that tide is being cut-off by the influx of undesirable elements that have hurt the honest folks from other countries who would like to settle here. With these factors and the format issues I talked about in the pervious blog there is little hope for the game to ever take off here.

15. It's true that soccer is the #1 participation sport in the USA by leaps and bounds - no other sport comes close - it's relatively inexpensive to set up a team/league and there are people of all ages playing it, both male and female.

It was the second organized sport I ever got into, and it's the only one I won trophies in - ironically, after my knee injuries it was the least likely one I'd ever play again competitively - however, I do kick my 4 year old's butt every weekend (I put him in goal and just take target practice...again and again...)

17. Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Fins have traded Ronnie Brown to the Tampa Bay Bucs to reunite him with Cadillac Williams and have got 2LBs, Josh Freeman and next year's number 1 pick in exchange. Mike Nolan commented "you can never have enough LBs". Stephen Ross commented "Now we have 2 Dan Marinos on our roster". Tony Sparano commented "You gotta be kidding me that way?"

To replace Ronnie, Bill Parcells has talked ex-Detroit Lion Barry Sanders out of retirement and he is expected to start in game 1 this season. Barry commented "If Brett Favre can keep doing it why the **** can't I"? Brett Favre commented "as long as he doesn't eat into my air time what do I care"?" Rex Ryan commented "Barry who?" (can I get some relish with that)

In other personnel news, TO was spotted getting on a plane. No one knew where the plane was headed, but local media have speculated that the on-off affair between "Tuna" and "The player" is now firmly back on. Well, not firmly, but ..... you know .... sort of tentatively. A bit like the free safety we haven't been pursuing since the draft.

Finally for today's Fins news round up, Bill Bellicheat was arrested in Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphin stadium/Landshark stadium attempting to install video cameras. Bill commented "I was only trying to film the swimsuit calendar auditions, honest". FFR commented "I'm disappointed with this. Bill promised to put one in the cheerleaders locker room for me and he got caught before the installation." Charges are pending an NFL review, but it is understood that no further action will be taken. Roger Goodell said "as this is a first offence for Bill and he has an otherwise unstained character, we may turn a blind eye to this minor transgression. It is the Pats we're talking about here when all said and done."

19. another big stumbling block to soccer in this country is at the college level. what to our best athletes have the best chance at gaining scholarships to in this country. football, basketball, baseball and probably in that order. not many chances for kids coming out of high school to get a college scholarship, thus hurting the quality of athlete that plays the sport.

24. Patrick, not sure simple money and numbers will do the trick there. Uruguay, with a population of just over 3.5 million, were the first team in the quarter finals. Often the best players come from the humblest backgrounds and flair is learned on the streets, beaches or dirt, maybe not even kicking a ball.

Bad call against England & Mexico but IMO the better teams still won. Ghana outplayed the U.S. in the first half & in overtime. Sure we had our opportunities but let's face it, even if we won, Germany is a much better team than we are.

40. Here's the simple reason why soccer is not watched in the US, and most likely never will be. We are a socially violent nation that enjoys the violence in our sports. If it's not crashing, wrecking, struck, hit, kicked, punched, run into, bashed, or maimed we don't like it.

Soccer is full of floppers, fakes, pretenders, and wimps. Face it, that's not what we want to see. Allow the guy playing hacky sack with the ball to get nailed by a defender into the cheap seats and then you have a game we are going to watch.

41. Did you guys see this from the Miami Harold:

Ricky Williams Levitates, NFL Debates Rule Changes:

In a shocking development in the ongoing Ricky Williams saga, the Miami Dolphins running back was recently spotted levitating over three feet off of the ground, according to multiple witnesses. Initial reports from Williams' neighbors claiming they saw the football star levitating above his swimming pool were dismissed as a hoax. However, in a recent meditation class, that Williams was teaching at Nova University, students observed Williams clearly levitating off of the ground. "It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen, said Bryan Downs, a student in the class. "Ricky was sitting cross legged at the front of the room. He was taking us through a mediation and i noticed that his voice seemed to be moving, so i opened my eyes andsaw that he was hovering a few feet off of the ground. It was intense." When asked about the levitation, Williams smirked and responded that "there were a lot of different ways to get high". "The mind is very powerful", said the Dolphin and meditation coach. "There are no limits".

Upon hearing about William's new power, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called an emergency meeting of the rules committee to consider a ban on all forms of "flying, floating and levitation" during an NFL game. The pending rule change has already been sharply criticized by Miami coach Tony Sparano who said this morning, "Ricky worked real hard in the offseason, he shouldn't be penalized for his progress". Later in the day, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross called into a New York radio station and boasted, "do you believe me now?"

Matt Roth Looking for team with lots of Cap Space (Cleveland)

Matt Roth, confirming his unhappiness with the Browns is reportedly seeking offers from teams with lots of cap space. Roth, who was pictured wearing a variety of caps during the early portion of the 2009 season with the Dolphins is hoping a new team will be able to provide him with all the caps he can ever need. Rumors are the Browns locker room facilities are inadequate to hold all the caps that Roth will need for the upcoming season. Roth's agent was not available for comment.

I remember Cole from the Herald, he was a jerk if you disagreed with him and thought he knew football better than anyone. I laid him out a couple times for talking stupid chit. Back before the blogs took off he did a Q&A with the Herald that was pretty good because he answered every question in almost real time. He always used the line that he had to be impartial, impartial my arse, he never liked the Dolphins and it looks like he still doesn't.

63. First he lists Kendall Lanford behind Odrick/Merling, and refers to him as "Reserve Kendall Langford"... which shows he clearly has evaluated our line quite heavily, I mean forget Langford has started every game of his career except 3 games his rookie season, also forget he's the only lock to start among our ends, his title is reserve... very knowledgable.

"There’s not one serious or potential playmaker in the bunch.".... I think our entire d-line should have that line posted up in the lockerroom. Especially Randy Starks who is a playmaker, and Odrick who hasn't even started his career yet, is a 1st round pick, but isn't even a "Potential Playmaker". Glad we know he has no potential so we can clear those expectations out early.

75. Knight... Off subject with this, I know you're a Mets fan although for the life of me I don't know why ? Anyway I went to the Mets farm A game today I live about 6 miles from the complex. We saw Beltran play, he's rehabing a knee down here. He went 1 for 4 with 2 balls that were pretty well hit the first being caught in deep center field, the other a line drive single to left center that was able to be cut off holding him to a single. The other 2 at bats he tapped out to the third baseman who threw him out at first. He seemed to run well although he never extended himself, and on one of those ground outs he seemed to be favoring his knee as he walked back to the dugout. That was the only time I saw him do that. Not sure if he is ready for a return full time, but he is pretty close to at least being a pinch hitter.

The Mets also had a just signed SS that I heard was looking good until today. Not one ball was hit to him that I remember, and he couldn't turn a DP on hit back to the pitcher. Then he hit into a DP with Beltran coming up behind him with 2 guys on to end the inning. All and all he had a stinky day, but that's the way it goes at times in BB.

I see about 2 games a month and for the first time this year the team seems to have a few players in town at this time.

The Center fielder for the Marlins farm team has a gun for an arm, he threw a runner out at home and almost caught a guy rounding second with a throw behind him. He seemed to the best player on the field for them other than the pitching staff for today.

Okay Michael Vick had a birthday party, is Michael Vick not allowed to have a birthday party? What is this guy supposed to do, live in a cocoon? So Some hoodlum shows up, it's free country, Vick didn't invite the guy and obviously this jackass is looking for trouble. Vick does the only thing he can do, leave. Then of course the guy looking for trouble found it, shouldn't this story be about the jackass out to get himself in the news?

The Lion's exec get sa DUI, nothing good about that, but how many other people were in that jail cell the same night for the same thing? One of them probably wrecked and hurt someone or worse, but we only hear about this guy... TMZ and all the rest of these so called news reporters need to get a life, here we have one of the worst disasters in human history going on in the Gulf of Mexico and these people want to worry about Michael Vick?

I think the thing that is bugging me is that once you inundate people with too much bad news, all of it becomes static. It's like people who watch a lot of horror movies become impervious to gore and death and need a bigger and bigger fix to get the initial scare. The truly bad stuff becomes part of the static and we as a people become complacent to the stuff that will lead to our downfall. That's a big jump from Michael Vick being in a bar but it follows because of how many people actually seem to care when the really bad stuff is like oil off a duck's back. It will only get worse as more and more reporters flood the airways.

Patrick, blame uk and his fellow brits for our media. They started gossip news along time ago. LOL

That said, too many Americans are interested in things that have nothing to do with their own lives. As technology improves we get more and more nonsense. It's not going away. So build yourself that cocoon somewhere to escape the madness. LOL

80. knight,

who are these americans? i mean really who are they? I dont know a person who cares about gossip. whether it be sports or the lives of hollywood actors, i dont know a person who gives a rats arse about other peoples lives. i could careless about who henne, marshall, dansby or any of the fins are. just win on sundays and it makes my day/week better. selfish? i dont know, and i dont care, if those guys are saints, or satan, it doesnt effect my life what so ever. so like i asked, who are all these people that give a shit about this gossip. it must be someone cause the media doesnt drop it so it must sell advertising some where

81. I think it's more the proliferation of channels that MUST BE FILLED with something 24/7. What used to go unnoticed is now reported in a loop every 15 minutes in order to fill airtime.

I am in no way promoting driving while intoxicated, but I'd like to know how many reporters/producers/news executives have had their brushes with law enforcement go without a public airing of the laundry.

ffr, someone is watching all these reality shows and tuning into Access Hollywood, TMZ etc.

Ultimately I agree, I don't care much about who a football player is as a person. On Sunday he is a number with a name and I root for him to do his job and help the team win.

herd, we have plenty of double standards.

ReplyDelete
83. I think it's the media itself creating all this BS and forcing it on us from every direction. The thing that gets me is they cause people like Goodell to react to something one cares about except the freaking media.

Why would that guy in his right mind go to Vick's birthday party knowing he's going to at least get his ass kicked? Who had something to gain from it and if he wasn't getting something out of it why would he do it? The only people who had something to gain from it are the sensationalist media.

ReplyDelete
84. herd,

now that is an 'original idea' LOL

seriously though, you do have a point, maybe it is the fact there are 1,299,547,903 channels on 24/7 they have to find some useless info about how many times brittnay spears changes her (fill in the blank) to put on the air

ReplyDelete
85. knight,

i know someone is watching, that was my point, i would like to know what those people are like. my guess is it the mom's of the trolls that frequent the SS. you know, the mom in her house coat her hair up in rollers, a camel half smoked hanging out her mouth with the ashes about to fall as she yells at her troll son "stop your snickerings damn you, you on dat damn thingy again talking to strangers, i told you, i aint changing your diaper again when you shat yourself from laughing cause some fold acknowledges you exist'

ReplyDelete
86. Double standards!!! On one hand you ask some guy to go out on the football field and try to knock someone's head off and on the other hand you want him to be Mr. Wonderful off field. I'm sorry but people who have a tendency to violence don't just turn it on and off like some kind of water spigot. It may run a little hotter and a little colder but it is always on.

87. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 9:36 AM

LOL

What I find funny on the SS is that the troll thinks my name is really Tim and that whenever someone else attacks him under whatever name, he thinks it's me. Well, he's got his own troll or trolls. LOL

He loses his mind when I switch names and he has to mention all of them every time he posts as if this bothers me or anyone else. I wonder how many I can get him to list?

ReplyDelete
88. now that is a great idea. keep changing it and see if you can get him to list double digit names. that would be funny.

i do think there is two different trolls. no doubt one is just an idiot that wants attention, but i think the other is a board regular that just likes to mess around with you. i think he feels you take the blog serious and thinks he gets to you

ReplyDelete
89. oh wow, my condolences to randal, wow, just saw, no parent should have to go thru that

ReplyDelete
90. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 9:56 AM

A board regular aye? Any ideas?

Yes whoever it is he thinks I care if someone disagrees with me and that I feel I have some sort of status there. The reality is he's the one who has the issue with my status because he's the one who has accused a bunch of us of being part of the elite. LOL

91. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 9:57 AM

What are you talking about?

ReplyDelete
92. I have a link to what I think the troll is/would be like. But really, it is tooo gross to post it. NSF Anywhere. But if you are very brave, like me, google 'man injects himself with silicone'.

ReplyDelete
93. i dont know what is worse, that he injected himself or the fact you thought of googling 'man injects himself with silicone' lol

ReplyDelete
94. Think of it, the business I am in, injections, silicone....is it really that much of a stretch to figure it out. Actually, I saw it on facebook...I am friends with this Aussie chick on there who tells the dirtiest jokes I have ever heard. She posted the link. So there :-P

ReplyDelete
95. wait right there, you here dirty jokes....no, the dirtiest jokes you have ever heard and you dont share them with me. ha, ok, i see how you are. fine, see if i share any of my NLC's with you again LMAO

ReplyDelete
96. yeah, i have my opinion, but to not offend anyone, i dont want to say who it is.

dont get me wrong, i think the regular who plays a troll just does it for fun. i think the real troll thinks he gets to you

98. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 10:55 AM

I hear ya and I have a few ideas who it could be. No biggie anyway.

ReplyDelete
99. Me too, me too....wonder if we're thinking of the same person, or if it's 3 different ones? There is definitely one regular who annoys the hell out of me with the stuff he says, and no ffr, it's not you. More of an attitude thing.

ReplyDelete
100. Sounds like one adult, half a dozen toddlers, and a jacuzzi with no lid on
it....possibly one of those built-in types that are attached to the pool -
aren't they always at the deep end of the pool? If the jets were on there
could've been a vacuum that pulled the boy under water...complete piss poor
adult supervision from beginning to end.

101. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 11:01 AM

Are we talking about the silicon penis guy? WTF?

ReplyDelete
102. moving this to the end to make it easier.

Herd,

why would i think it is me that gets on your nerves every one knows you love me, LOL

let me take a guess as to who it is that gets on your nerves, does the guy like to shop.

knight,

i guess in some wierd way understand a regular being bored and playing a trolls, but that guy. i dont get it. what do you come home from work, say, hey honey, i am bored what do you want to do? wait nevermind i have an idea, see you later i am going to the basement to inject my penis with silicon

ReplyDelete
103. no doubt it was poor supervision. that is usually the case, but doesnt mean i dont have compassion for the guy.

Yeah I'm sure his wife is thrilled with that pile of dough.

I thought herd's annoying one might be Randy as well. Maybe NJ because he makes so many predictions and is relentless against his attackers. LOL

ReplyDelete
105. LOL, well i figured that was why he shot it up and made it useless, he was married and no longer had a need for it

NJ cracks me up. i joke about him being on roids but some of his rants against his attackers are so roid like they are funny. like i said on the ss, he is the blogger you want having your back in a bar fight.

ReplyDelete
106. No it's not randy.

Wife? Did you miss the part where he said he's gay?

107. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 11:46 AM

Agreed.

ReplyDelete
109. me either, i didnt have the sound on either. there was a reason i never got 'fixed' no way i want anyone getting done there with a needle, much less doing it to myself.

did he say why he did it, what was he trying to accomplish?

well then if it isnt randy, it has to be the bungle fellow, i mean the guy has a new name every week.....doesnt he knight LOL

110. btw girl, we are still waiting for some dirty jokes

112. Just another example of NPS ( No Parenting Skills ) No matter if the Cunninghams had NPS or not, I hate to see things like that happen.

ReplyDelete
113. Keep waiting. I repeat them to my bffs, but really, I am hopeless telling jokes. Usually I just let them read them off my page.

And Knight, still wrong. The trolls are what they are, I don't read them or respond to them. They don't bother me. I think they must have a pathetic life and are to be pitied. I'm talking about the person who used my 'real' name on the SS one day. The SS sent me the IP address, so I have a pretty good idea who it is.

ReplyDelete
114. Herd - how could they get your real name? Actually, don't answer that or more stalkers may join the club.

ReplyDelete
115. The Knight of Bonus VicisJune 30, 2010 at 3:59 PM

herd, I remember you saying they used your real name. I don't how they got it and like uk said, don't bother, but that someone really is a creep.

Any hints?
