Yeah, so we missed out on the Super Bowl this year by...3 games...the point is we can't really get into the swing of the off-season until the dust has settled from the Super Bowl. I predict the Steelers will win, btw, simply because high-octane offenses like Arizona's rarely get revved up in the big game. I can't remember the last time a team was offensively proficient in the Super Bowl, but to be honest I haven't really been paying attention since my team has never been there in my time as a fan. In any event, I go by the creed that defenses win Championships. I would prefer that Arizona win for the good story and that Fitzgerald deserves it and I don't think he'll have another chance anytime soon. But in a low-scoring game like the Super Bowl tends to be, my money would have to be on the Steelers, who are the kings of the low-scoring wins.
In the meantime, here are the latest gossip, rumours and reports that are NOT about the Super Bowl:
- A piece on PFT about the SS's report yesterday that the Dolphins were working to re-sign Vernon Carey.
- Albert Haynesworth just wants some money.
- If you think nothing's going on at the Sun-Sentinel blog lately, feel lucky you're not a Baltimore Ravens fan/Baltimore Sun reader. Their last blog entry was almost two weeks ago and it was a call for help from the fans to come up with something to talk about!
- NFL Commissioner's press conference at 11:30am Eastern may include language the player's don't want to hear.
- The 2009 franchise tag prices are available now. The linebacker and offensive linemen tags are virtually identical so I think Baltimore will be tagging their Tackle.
- Former Miami Dolphin, Troy Vincent, is getting railroaded. Payback or Pre-emptive Strike?
Tin,
ReplyDeleteOmar is back on the SS if you hadn't noticed, with a "head versus heart pick" blog. I can't wait for the season being over either, but after spending over half of my life waiting for another fins Superbowl appearance, I'm not sure I could handle the 2 week lead up anymore. I might have to go into deep freeze and just thaw out on Sunday morning.
Anyway, whilst I agree with what you said as being conventional wisdom, just remember, this has been one topsy turvy season and the rule book has well and truly gone out of the window.
Yeah, thanks uk, I noticed Omar is back and I posted a comment on that blog, so it should show up in 10 minutes or so.
ReplyDeleteTrue about the topsy-turvy season, except the Cardinals limped into the playoffs, and really only became a Super Bowl team because their defense suddenly stepped it up 110%. If they can keep up that level then it should be an interesting game. The Steeler's defense is ALWAYS at that level and I expect them to be at that level come Sunday.
Walker, what do you mean? the comments about what he said in his previous blog? I don't know if you've noticed but some of the commenters, including the imposter/imposters never let anything go. They are like blog terrorists, trying to wear everyone down. We've got one on here, but he doesn't seem to realize with one click of the mouse I can delete any comments I want to.
ReplyDeleteTin, Albert's negotiations are going slow w/the Titans(local radio), but that's normal for him. I believe he's been on 1 year deals for the past couple of seasons. He will resign w/them unless somebody throws out the silly money.
ReplyDeleteKent, are you in Tennessee?
ReplyDeleteI think Albert wants more money than any team will be willing to pay as far as a guarantee goes. No team in the world is going to give him a 100% guaranteed contract, that's just insane!
Tin, Yes. I live in the same area as Albert and a lot of the other Titans. He tends to have fun w/the negotiation period. There DL coach is excellent and at the end of the day I see him staying. My buddy and I have thrown the scenario around for a long time about Albert coming to Miami. There are many lifelong phin fans in this part of the country because when we were growing up the dolphins were on the TV each week. I had the dolphins bike(#39), underwear, sweatshirt, coat, etc.
ReplyDeleteTin, first comment wasn't mind. Dickhead imposter on the loose. I can feel proud like FFR now
ReplyDeleteThere is a "comments to this entry are closed"
ReplyDeletenotation on the "Dear Mob" blog. I don't think I have seen that before, but then again, I am a relative newcomer. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Oh, and knowing my motive and style by now, when do I defend Omar? For all of those who don't remember a Super Bowl victory, I was barely four years old in '73 but clearly remember grown men jumping off of couches spilling drinks on the floor and my uncle landing squarely on my mother's coffee table (ala young Polamalu in commercial) as the legs collapsed. I had know idea at the time that I was witnessing Miami's last Super Bowl victory live.
ReplyDeletesorry Tin, didnt meant to hit post comment above. i gotta ask, why exactly are you posting 'breaking news' here? who exactly is going to come to this blog to get breaking news? just curious man, but its all good.
ReplyDeleteffr, where did I post 'breaking news'? Do you not want me to post anything at all? LOL I'm just keeping the blog up-to-date. Besides, I can post an associated press article faster than Harvey can and maybe one day people WILL come here for 'breaking news'.
ReplyDeleteduuuude, it is fine. i waste a ton of time myself, i was just saying. i seriously think you need to think about how silly it is for you to keep posting news here. i need one too, but, man, get a life
ReplyDeleteffr, I'm doing this for myself so I don't fall asleep at work. In case you couldn't tell, the sandwich-making is not that interesting and the days drag.
ReplyDeleteSo please don't tell me what to do of how to live my life. I'm not imposing anything upon you by maintaining a football blog.
Maybe one day it will help get me out of the sandwich industry! You never know. Besides, you don't want to know what else I'd be doing with my time if I wasn't doing this...
lets see
ReplyDeletealright sweet success, I think because of the static IP with my LAN was giving me problems
ReplyDeleteI'll come here for breaking news, then I won't have to hear all the bias frm the media
Breaking news!
ReplyDeleteParcells trap door wasn't quite as big as reported according to Mando, who is seeing Parcell's wife when Bill is busy?
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2009/01/parcells-report-of-optout-clause-not-entirely-correct.html
This is great stuff Tin. I especially enjoy the Franchise Tag numbers. Thanks for the research.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Jahndoh. I was actually surprised how LOW some of the numbers were. I kind of assumed they would continue to go up 1 or 2 mill a year :)
ReplyDeleteSo, looking at your Franchise/Transition list (thanks, Tin), the top five salaries/skill sets are, in order:
ReplyDeleteQB
Corner
Wide Out
DE
OL
LB
If we correlate that to the draft, we don't need a QB, so the list includes a sixth. Corner and Wide Out are the next most valuable positions and are virtually even in $$$. At about a million less is DEs, with OL about a mil and a half back with LBs.
Parcell assembles talent, which equates to $$$, so does that mean they go Corner or Wide Out at #25?
ny dolphin, interesting take on it. I'd need to think about that for a while. At the moment there's no WR that screams first pick unless we go with Hakeem Nicks or Heyward-Bey (I would be surprised if Harvin is either on our radar or available at #25). Of course all that could change post-combine. Interesting way to look at it though. If Parcells looks at it that way it would almost guarantee a cornerback going first. But I honestly think they will go with biggest need first which is linebacker, safety, DT and OL. Of course if they don't re-sign Goodman, then CB would jump to the top of the list.
ReplyDeleteThe Pats and Panthers played a good offensive shootout in the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteDid you realize that the Pats won all their championships by 3 points and they also lost by 3 points?
