The Dolphins have acquired a new QB

Following my advice, the Dolphins have traded for veteran backup QB, Tyler Thigpen from the Chiefs for an undisclosed draft pick (my advice wasn't for Thigpen specifically, but to forgo free agent QBs in favor of trading for one).  For someone of Thigpen's history I would guess it's a 5th, but keep in mind we also had an extra 6th and an extra 7th so it might have been a combo of two picks.

Being that our trading of Alleman and Ndukwe were also undisclosed, this could be a swap of compensation and calling it even. Based on that initial trade we probably had more than one extra 6th and 7th.

  2. is this a GOOD thing????? And what the hell is he doing in that picture? Hmmmm never mind, I don't think I want to know. ;)

  3. I still believe that first trade was for a 5th. But it is favorable odds
that we got Thigpen for zero downpayment.

Tin somehow finds bizarre pictures of players doing very college like things. LOL

  5. I would say Thigpen was one of the top QBs available for trade, and one of
the more experienced, so yes it is a good thing, in MY opinion.

  7. wellllllllllll just so happens, I value your opinions, now your selection of pictures.....hmmmm that is a little shady. ;)

Agreed. The moment Ireland and Parcells found out about the probably diagnosis for Pennington they went to work. That's pretty impressive making a deal for a QB by Tuesday afternoon.

  13. I just checked and KC didn't have another 7th to give, they only had one and gave it to us in this year's draft.  So the worst we could have gotten for Ndukwe/Alleman was a 6th.  That would have given us 10 total picks:  1st - 1, 2nd - 1, 3rd - 1, 4th - 1, 5th - 1, 6th - 3?, 7th - 2.  Or we might have had 5th - 2, 6th - 2, 7th - 2.

If we got Thigpen for a 6th (which is possible with Son-in Law Pioli handling the deal) then I'd say very well done.  If Pennington is done done, then it's possible Thigpen would be extended through next year so we don't have to draft another QB.  If Pennington isn't done, then they may offer him a two-year backup/mentoring role to tide him over till he retires, but I don't see the Dolphins giving Pennington a big longterm deal even if he does come back 100%.

  14. my bad, turns out Thigpen IS signed through 2010 as well, so we don't even have to worry about it.

That's right about KC not having the 7th. I forgot that. So you're right it probably involves a 5th or 6th or a wash for Alleman and Ndukwe.

  17. Thigpen is a good signing for rthe Fins
Thought earlier in the year the Patriots were going to sign him
When they were down to Brady and  a rookie only
Other bloggers stated KC would never release him

Thank the Parcells "family" connection for this signing!

  18. Of course, the second we trade for Thigpen, The Eagles release Garcia!

    Did they really? LOL

I don't really care. Garcia is old and he'll just be more dink and dunk. Henne and Pat White should be the focus now.

  20. Um, since I can't post on the SS, someone tell Berardino he's crazy to suggest Vinny Testaverde!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Most everyone already has!  I thought he meant it as a joke myself.  Do you think he was really serious?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't know, the way he reacted to Thigpen sort of implies he doesn't know
    anything about football....

  23. The Knight who says Ni!September 29, 2009 at 1:08 PM

I think the Testeverde stuff was just the media being silly. Hey Mike even used the same skeleton picture that you used in his recent blog about the signing of Thigpen and he comments on it.

(Not sure exactly what Thigpen is doing in this old picture we dug up on the Internet, but, hey, who doesn't have a few, uh, skeletons in their closet?)

I think that's a little bizarre for a newspaper to select that picture but anyway. LOL

  24. oh let me, let me,let me,let me,let me,let me, please please tin pick me, let me tell him for you.

yeah in case you didnt get it, i think the guy is a complete tool

  25. Also was confused by the line, "Give the Trifecta credit: Even in dire times, the men who run the Miami Dolphins' football operations are always looking to the future."

What does it have to do with the future?  They needed to get a QB today, tonight at the latest.  I think they were looking to the present.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why is everyone confused about what he's doing in the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  27. You think that's bad, I just tweeted at Armando Salguero...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Funny, he is using the same pic as you!

What's going on?  You guys have really small avatars!  ;)

  29. tin,

i see mike put up a new blog about thigpen and stole your pic from above.  i am surprised he didnt just post a link to your site

  30. Ewww, now THAT is disgusting.

  31. "So even though they could have signed a retread like Gus Frerrotte or Brian Griese or (my personal choice) Vinny Testaverde to hold down the fort behind Chad Henne while Chad the Second settles in as the replacement for the injured Chad Pennington, they did not do that."

    herdfan, guess he was serious.

  32. It's not the size of the avatar....?

  33. Ain't the first time, won't be the last. one of the papers put up the same
video as me about 30 mins later too.
At least I got my blog up an hour before Berardino. I'm playing at football
speed, he's still playing at baseball speed.

Thigpen is a solid backup or #3 QB. I don't expect him to ever be a regular starter but he could help us.

    ReplyDelete
  64. tin, who do you think is going to be used in the spread offense now? thigpen or white

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Knight who says Ni!September 29, 2009 at 4:59 PM

I'd say we'll see some more spread with White as the season progresses. Henne will get 75-80% of the snaps but we will see some more White and Wildcat now.

If we run on average 60 plays per game and right now our average is 65.3 because of the Colts game, I could see this kind of breakdown.

    Henne - 45
    Brown - 8
    White - 7

Right now we're averaging 34 rushes and 31.3 pass attempts per game. We need to keep that up if we can. It should payoff at some point.
