Trade Deadline Day

Think of it as Career Day for those who don't get to choose where they work.

The Dolphins have been quiet so far, but the Patriots are shifting their roster around making space for new players. First they released OLB, Tully Banta-Cain, and now at least two reports are saying they have also released WR, Joey Galloway (update - looks like this move was to make room for rookie WR/KR Brandon Tate to come off the PUP. According to Belichick, tate will likely be active this week). The ongoing rumour is that they are looking to trade Adalius Thomas. Banta-Cain is of the impression the Pats are going to bring him back. Obviously, if they manage to trade Thomas and get someone better than Banta-Cain in the deal, then his impression may change. UPDATE - The Pats have released another player, this time it's tight-end, Michael Matthews. Another update! Now the Pats have released LB, Eric Alexander. They have now released four players, and have two coming off the PUP list - Tate, and OL, Mark Levoir.

Meanwhile, the Jets already made a big trade a couple of weeks ago, but don't count them out of the picture just yet. I've heard rumours that they're not done building their WR group and now with Kris Jenkins on injured-reserve, there's reported interest in Shaun Rogers out of Cleveland (yes, the same Shaun Rogers I said the Dolphins should have picked up during training camp when he was a free agent). Maybe they will trade Rex Ryan for an extra practice blocking dummy.

And speaking of Cleveland, there is another rumour that pro-bowl left tackle, Joe Thomas, could be on the trading block as well. He would likely cost a 1st round pick and some sizable change as well.

I'll keep track of any trades here in this post so keep refreshing.

• The Pats re-signed Tully Banta-Cain.
• Today Matt Roth becomes eligible to return from the PUP but the Dolphins don't have a practice today. They are having a fan-appreciation day at Landshark Stadium. On a Tuesday? More like unemployed/homeless appreciation day.
• The Jets have signed NT Howard Green to replace Kris Jenkins.
• The Pats re-signed Eric Alexander mere hours after releasing him. This ends any serious chance of them trading for a player. They were obviously using today to re-structure a couple of contracts without hurting their salary cap.
• Lendale White went over to the darkside, signing on with agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
• With less than an hour to go, it looks like we could make it through the day with NO trades at all.
• A TRADE!! The Eagles have acquired LB, Will Weatherspoon, from the Rams for a 2010 5th round pick and WR Brandon Gibson. Just about 40 minutes to go.
• OK, that's all she wrote. Barring any secret unreported deals, there was only one trade today.

8. tin, you reading any news out there, any trades you hearing rumor of

9. Shaun Rogers would have been an excellent 1-2 punch at NT with Jason Ferguson.

I can't see the Trifecta being so far off base with their secondary personnel this year. Seems to me that the defensive scheme should be looked into because we are repeatedly getting burned back there and it seems that halftime adjustments are nonexistent. I realize that you have to look at the defense as a unit and that play up front has alot to do with secondary play, but if this D can't progress, we're in trouble!

10. Heard something about the Fins in talks with KC for Bowe/Dorsey, and with Carolina for Steve Smith. Everyone on Finheaven.com is going nuts but I think it's BS. Other than that, pretty sure the jets will try for Sean Rogers, and Pats might try for Merriman. I don't support any of these, it's just what I've heard........

ReplyDelete
11. guys theres a rumor that bowe has been tarded to us for porter and a 6th round pick. is this true?

ReplyDelete
12. No that's not true.

ReplyDelete
13. The Jets are definitely in talks for Rogers, that's been confirmed via Jets
inside mole. I hadn't heard the Merriman rumour, but the Pats are
definitely trying to bring in someone.

14. Tin, it's not really a fan appreciation day, it's a blood drive. That's why it's on Tuesday, and the first 1000 people that registered to give blood got a free ticket to the Dolphins game vs. the Bucs a t-shirt and two $5 gift certificates for Publix, if I lived a little closer, I'd be there!

ReplyDelete
15. Does the shirt say, I gave a pint of blood and all I got was these lousy
tickets to the Bucs game...oh, and this t-shirt?

ReplyDelete
16. there is a rumor ginn was traded to the ravens for a first and second round conditional pick. the condition being if ginns family goes too it becomes a #1, is this true?

ReplyDelete
24. well, it's moments until the deadline. of course the way the Dolphins front office is we wont hear anything from them until Friday! LOL

ReplyDelete
25. I saw some of that UCF/Canes game, good damn thing we dropped UCF from our schedule

ReplyDelete
26. same here, football is low on the agenda for judging a university. we all know the only thing important is the amount of talent on campus

ReplyDelete
27. better send it fedex...
Did u see Omar's BS headline...'Bad news on Don Shula's Blood Donation!"

ReplyDelete
28. Last time I checked, Tosh didn't have a giant armchair and no one gets

ReplyDelete
43. Not only that but Omar said last week he couldn't post on the blog from his cell and was wondering if others had the same issues. He was 'tweeting' from the blood donation thing, so I was thinking those posts were all fakes. But then again, I'm no detective.

ReplyDelete
44. Wow, really? I admit mine are no a-list, but yours seem to be getting worse
and worse. LOL

ReplyDelete

ReplyDelete
46. you'd think he'd have a little netbook or something with him...

ReplyDelete
47. Not the Dolphins, but there has been a trade.

ReplyDelete
48. Well if I have to drag it out of you.................

What kind of blog do you run here anyway? We have to beg and plead for little 'tins bits' of information? LOL

And BTW, it was suggested on the SS that you, the Knight, myself and a blogger to be named later be traded. I'm honored to be in such esteemed company! But one must consider the source(randy)! j/k I know he reads over here.....Hiya randy :*

ReplyDelete
49. kind of like sex, waiting for some, waiting for some, waiting for someand then bam it is over in 8 seconds LOL

ReplyDelete
50. I know it's hard for you guys, but I do actually write articles with all
that info in them. Usually the stuff in the articles are the facts and the
stuff in the comments are all lies....

ReplyDelete
51. It would make too much sense for us to trade for Dwayne Bowe. Big, young, legitimate No. 1 WR. Nahhhh!!!! Let's stick with Ginn since he made two big catches in three years.

ReplyDelete
52. Fins,

You know there are drugs that are available for premature ejaculators like you....Try some cocaine. LOL!!!

ReplyDelete
53. like i just posted on the SS blog "great, now we will hear till the draft how we should of traded for _______ (insert name) when not a person has any idea if that player was even available"

WHP,

we have no idea of knowing if Bowe was even on the market, and if he was, what they wanted for him.

ReplyDelete
54. Premature? what are you talking about, i am not 3 second guy!

ReplyDelete
55. Heardfan, speaking of knight were is he? tin what about Joey Galloway any good?

ReplyDelete
56. You just said 8!!! LOL!!!

ReplyDelete
57. omg it is a joke, sorry, if i have to spell it out it is no fun

ReplyDelete
58. i am not tin, but i saw joey for a year in tampa, well his one good year. joey is just and old ginn.

ReplyDelete
59. Joey Galloway was great in the 90s.

ReplyDelete
60. Fins,

Supposedly everyone on the Chiefs was available for the right price except Cassel. If we traded next year's first round pick, I think Scott Pioli (aka BP's son-in-law) would have made the deal but our regime is too conservative. We need a true No. 1 WR & why take a chance with a high draft if you can get a guy that is already a good, young, WR.

The Eagles traded a 5th round pick & a WR that I never heard of (Gibson???) to the Rams for Will Witherspoon??? Now that's just stealing....He's only 29 not 33.

ReplyDelete
61. Sorry...Don't get it.

ReplyDelete
62.
I have no problem with us not pulling the trigger on any expensive trades. Expensive meaning draft picks. Not many players that are traded for midseason have major impacts on their new team. It isn’t like MLB, were it is more of a individual team sport game. Coming in and having to pick up a new system is more difficult in the NFL then putting on pin stripes and hitting the same pitching you did for your other team. We are not one or two players away from competing with the big boys. Remember we are in just year two of the trio regime. Sometimes the 11-5 record of last year fools us into thinking we are better than we actually are. Draft picks are more valuable to us right now. I would love to see another draft like the last two and maybe next year we can make that trade or pick up that big FA and then be ready to make that SB run.

ReplyDelete
63. I read the articles. Sometimes I think some of your male readers are so accustomed to only looking at pictures/skipping articles that they don't read them. ;)

BTW, j/k with giving you a hard time.

ReplyDelete
64. Bowe wasn't on the trading block, WHP. He is the only legitimate target for
Cassel in KC. There was a blanket statement made by one unnamed source, but
to say EVERY player is available is a good way to get the team to turn on
the coach and GM.

ReplyDelete
65. "individual team sport game"
huh?

ReplyDelete
66. I agree with the draft mentality. Sure there are players who have proven
themselves in the NFL, but none of them excite me as much as finding a
diamond that will shine for years to come via the draft. Plus there will be
some fun targets in free agency next year.

ReplyDelete
67. Hawk:
I have no idea about the Knight, only that he said last week he has been feeling under the weather, I think it was after the Monday night game. No posts from him in a few days that I have seen, so I had wondered earlier, either here or at the SS if he was still sick. It's not like we actually know people on here, so he could be enjoying his version of the bye week.

Tinshaker, have you heard from the Knight?

ReplyDelete
68. exactly. baseball is a individual team sport. it is 9 guys on a team that play as individuals. i kind of like that 'individual team sport'. ok ok and before i get bombarded with baseball isnt a team sport, i know it is, but one player on a baseball team can make a difference, that is the point of my whole post, not one player on a football can make a difference

ReplyDelete
69. If my memory serves me correctly I remember the Colts trading a 2nd round pick for Anthony McFarland who helped them win a Super Bowl so sometimes the right player can put you over the top. I know we're a LOT more than a player or two away from making a legitimate run BUT using draft picks to get a YOUNG WR like Bowe is like drafting a player you KNOW can not only play in the NFL but perform at a very high level. There's much more of a learning curve coming out of college than going to another NFL team.

ReplyDelete
70. Knight often disappears for weeks at a time. He's probably just doing
whatever it is they do in Jersey.

ReplyDelete
71. again, you are assuming he was available. and available for a decent cost.

For that matter, we should of traded for Ed Reed (fixes our safety position), Bowe, and i will let you pick the MLB you want

ReplyDelete
72. WHP, one could say there's an even bigger learning curve coming out of
Kansas City!

ReplyDelete
73. "I would love to see another draft like the last two and maybe next year we can make that trade or pick up that big FA and then be ready to make that SB run."

Fins,

The last two drafts HAVE looked great so far. Don't think we're close to making a SB run but we still have a shot to make the playoffs again. After watching the Saints dismantle the Giants, I shudder to think what the Saints are going to do to our defense. If we continue to lack a legitimate pass rush, take the Saints with the points to cover.

BTW--The Broncos have 8 new starters on defense & beat the sh#t at of Rivers last night in SD! Does anyone remember how bad the Broncos defense looked just last year??? Dumervil looks like Porter did last year.

ReplyDelete
74. Fins,

Okay. That sounds good to me.

ReplyDelete
75. Tins,

LOL!!! Now that's a GREAT point. KC is pretty bad but look at the Rams....

ReplyDelete
76. But Bowe is only in his 3rd year & he's exactly the kind of big WR that Parcells' wants, likes, & hopes (???) he has with Turner.

ReplyDelete
77. The Rams are going to be even worse without Witherspoon.

ReplyDelete
78. And according to Mike B @ the SS the Dolphins have waived Murphy and signed Murtha from the Lions. I think you still are having SS issues, so I'll help you out here:
