Tin Bits - OTA Day 2

  • Brandon Marshall is wearing no. 19.  Ted who Jr.? Still, BM says he will change it before training camp, but if anyone has a Ginn jersey they can write 'B.M.' in Sharpie over the top of it for now.
  • Jason Ferguson has high blood pressure, but no steroids.  He's still a good guy, and if it's seriously something to treat a health issue, I can't see why an appeal wouldn't be successful in getting him back on the field sooner than his current 8-game suspension.
  • Justin Smiley and Nate Garner were both absent -  Smiley for obvious reasons - as far as I know Garner is neither injured nor in the doghouse, so it's probably an excused absence.
  • Ronnie Brown was in attendance and practiced on a limited basis and reportedly looks to be running without pain.
  • Patrick Cobbs, Chad Pennington and Will Allen practiced while Channing Crowder and Reggie Torbor both worked on the sidelines.
  • Chris Clemons worked as the 1st FS with Reshad Jones the backup.  Tyrone Culver backed up Yeremiah Bell at SS.
  • Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen, Taurus Johnson and Marlon Moore practiced returning punts.  Surprised that Kory Sheets and a couple of DBs weren't included, but maybe they are just starting with WRs and working through by position.
  • LB line-up:  WOLB - Charlie Anderson, Cam Wake.  SOLB - Quentin Moses, Erik Walden, Koa Misi.  ILB - Karlos Dansby/Tim Dobbins, Channing Crowder/Reggie Torbor.
  • LG - Donald Thomas.  RG - Richie Incognito.
  • Patrick Turner and Brandon Marshall will not practice until Training Camp.  Goodbye Patrick Turner.

  1. I'm not going to read too much into it because a lot of back ups were "starting" ahead of "starters" today, but GOD NO! PLEASE! Don't let them go with Anderson in front of Wake! I hope that this doesn't indicate that Wake STILL isn't picking everything up.

  2. I hope Tim Dobbins doesn't read this blog... First "Lee', now "Ted".... you're gonna break the man's confidence Tin!!

  3. Yeah... I wish we knew who started the first day of OTA's since they often swap day to day, it's hard to know who was or wasn't swapped around on the 2nd day.

  4. LOL Tryp!  At least Tin knows it's 3 letters long.  Maybe he'll have a contest with himself to see how many days he can Dobbins' name wrong, but still using 3 letter names.

  5. and with this regime you never know if they are intentionally showing certain things to the media and hiding others.  Who knows why who ever started yesterday did so and why the players who got the knod today did?

    ReplyDelete
  6. LOL, I don't know why that keeps happening!

  7. Keep in mind there is no pass rushing in OTAs

  8. I think that's a bogus reason to suspend Fergy for 8 games. Blood pressure medication. Really? Come on man!

I wouldn't be surprised if Anderson starts at WOLB on early downs giving way to Wake on passing downs. Anderson has good speed and could help cut down the outside run and rush the passer at times. But Wake will be on the field in passing situations.

This is a big season for Moses. It's his 4th season. Time to prove what you are.

  9. AP reports that Ronnie Brown was 'limping noticeably' yet all the local guys say he looked to be 100% or close to it.  I generally don't believe either of them so I don't know what to say.  My guess is that he's ahead of schedule because they ran wild-cat plays with him carrying the ball - something they wouldn't do if he was limping.

  10. why do you keep talking about moses, what are you his agent or something LOL.

  11. so, BP meds get you suspended.  damn i would be in deep chit, being i am currently on BP and steriod meds.  that is why i wont try out for the fins.....yeah, that is it.....i could make the team, with no problem, would be an all pro with ease, but since i am on BP meds i would get suspened so why bother.

  12. LOL, me too FFR.  Actually, I'm afraid that my protein powder has some creatine in it and I would fail the league drug test.  If it wasn't for that, I'd totally be able to make the team.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Yankees used to drink creatine like milkshakes.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well he is Moses. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  15. Some of this band substance issues are a joke.  Like it's natural to drink a shake that has the protein of a whole chicken..lol  I have used creatine during my workouts and only allows you to workout alittle longer and provides more torque.  So these minor advantages are fine with me.

  16. On the other hand wouldn't be cool to have a field of Incredible Hulks playing against each other?  Would have to rebuild the stadium after every game.  I'd pay for that!

  17. I KNOW I could make the team as a coordinator if it came down to a try-out.  Give me a pre-season half vs the other guy and the best scheme/playcalling wins - I think I'd have as good a shot as anybody already in the league of winning the job.

As for the free safety position, I'm a bit beyond that now, but I think I could handle inside linebacker...for 10-15 snaps a game only of course... 8-)

  20. As long as I'm on offense and I don't play special teams and we punt on 1st down, I could make an NFL team.  :-E

  23. what surgery did Patrick Turner have?

    ReplyDelete
  24. He had his USC-itis removed?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good! The hot dog eating Dirty Sanchez will do that to a man.

  26. I'm no medical professional, but I'd think anything involving dirty sanchez's and hot-dog eating could lead to infection...

Is that it with all the 'top secret' surgeries or are there a few more???  F#cking Parcells keeps under wraps better than the damn Pentagon.

    Rock,

They tried to get Turner to drop his balls on his own but it didn't work.  Same procedure Ginn had.

We're pretty much set at WR in my opinion.

    Marshall
    Hartline
    Bess
    Camarillo

They will likely be the game day 4.

    Tim,

Too many imbeciles on that site.  I can only imagine the doomsayer posts about Marshall even though it's still May.

    Rob,

Like I said, it's an ongoing procedure that clearly hasn't worked yet.

Too many imbeciles over there.  I can only imagine the doomsayer & Jet fan posts about how getting Marshall was a mistake.

    Who is Chris T???

  39. We Have PlaymakersMay 19, 2010 at 1:35 PM

    Tim,

I think this kid Grice-Mullen has a shot to make this team.  I know everyone compares him to Bess but Sparano said they both bring different things to the table.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tim The EnchanterMay 19, 2010 at 1:42 PM

Grice-Mullen might make the team as a returner so that would get him on the 45 but he probably wouldn't play much at WR unless he beats out Camarillo. The trifecta loves Camarillo like Cobbs. They will be hard to cut.

  42. I read somewhere recently that G-Cam is the only receiver in the league with >50 catches not to have dropped one last year. Wonder why the Triad likes him? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tim The EnchanterMay 19, 2010 at 2:11 PM

I don't believe that stat. There was a point in our season last year where everyone of our WRs were dropping passes. Camarillo too. It wasn't considered a drop by 'the experts'.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Tim
Here's the article (Barry Jackson debating who would occupy the spot opposite BM). Imo, Hartline probably has more upside, but we all know how much the Triad loves reliability. The great thing about this (and Henne vs Penny etc etc) is that thre is fierce competition for virtually every spot on the roster now. I'm loving it.

  45. True, I yelled at all of them on the TV, including Camarillo.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well my Wife says I have great hands !!  I'm wondering how she knows, all they do is wash dishes. :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tin,
You have Igcognito at RG and Thomas at LG.  Is this correct?  I thought they would be reversed since Thomas was a LG last year.  IMO he's the better run blocker and more suited to LG.  I couldn't tell you about Igcognito as a pass blocker.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Pass blocking so-so but headbutting outstanding..

    ReplyDelete
  49. yeah, they really did do a pretty good job of cleaning it up, still not perfect but it was AWFUL before... now that they have a guy watching it, it's been nice.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Meant to say Thomas as a RG last year and more suited to RG.  Dyslectics of the world untie!

    ReplyDelete
  51. So what happened to PTurner ???

    ReplyDelete
  52. Any room on the team for a guy that could run the 100 meters in less than 10 sec? unofficially a 9.82. How long would he survive at 5'8" 145 soaking wet?

    ReplyDelete
  53. i wish i could be this fast

    ReplyDelete
  54. Diggs, I hope that "untie" was intentional cause it cracked me up! LG is much tougher in a right handed offense because most of the pulling comes from there and also the blindside pass protection.

I'm wondering if Denver knew about this hip thing before the Marshall trade? 2 2nd rounders and 50 million I gotta think some doctor may no longer be on the Dolphins staff. Not that we wouldn't have made the deal, but I think we could have gotten Marshall for less if the injury was known. We'll never know because the management of this team is like the freaking NSA when it comes to disclosing information.

  55. I love Sparano's answer:

    Q. Finally, you went from 11-5 to 7-9 your first two seasons. What's your vision for this year's team?
TS: My vision is this: We go into every season thinking that we're going to get ourselves back into the tournament and try to get to the Super Bowl. I'm not going to make any predictions right now, but I feel really good about this team. I feel good about its direction and its leadership. I'm not sure where it's going to go, but I think it's going to be an interesting ride.

I think quite a few of us are expecting an interesting ride when the Fins rollercaoster starts up again this seaon?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't think it'll be a rollercoaster ride, IFFFF we're able to stay reasonably healthy!!!

Last yr was a rollercoaster ride b/c we HAD TO change direction's EVERY wk due to an unpresedented number of injuries!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I get what you're saying 13 - there should be less ups and downs this year, but when all said and done (a) it's football and (b) it's the Fins. You just know there are going to be heart-stopping moments and despair ahead .... let's hope there's a lot less of that than there is fun and celebrations! I hate to put a curse on the team even before camp starts, but I really expect us to make the play-offs this year. Anything less will be a disappointment to me, but of course, as always, the injuriy situation needs to be on our side. Having said that, our depth keeps on getting better so this should be less of a factor each year.

  58. He was still a Dolphin when he was in a Cowboys uniform to me!

  59. Patrick, yes intentional.  Left-handed am I, but dyslectic I'm think don't I.
