I've never been even remotely interested in the New England Patriots, or the New York Jets. The Indianapolis Colts were out of the Division for TWO whole years before I even noticed the NFL had re-structured the league. In the early 90's, when I first became exposed to the Dolphins (and American football), the only team you paid attention to with any sense of anxiety or interest were the Buffalo Bills. They WERE the AFC East in those days, winning 6 Division Championships in an 8 year span (Miami won the other two) from 1988 thru 1995. The newspaper used to love coming up with clever articles like, 'Who would win in a fight, a Buffalo or a Dolphin'. It was also at this time that suddenly every Buffalo fan in the world exposed their lack of knowledge of Biology and Natural Science. It is single-handedly because of Buffalo fans from this era that people to this day refer to the Dolphins as 'FISH".
The AFC East was formed in 1970, and since then each team has won the division at least twice. That's right, Jet fans. In 39 years, you have only won your Division TWICE. And it took you, get this, TWENTY-NINE years to win it finally in 1998. This coincidentally was a direct result of Bill Parcells coming in the previous year and transforming another one win team into a division winner. It took him two years and complete control in New York. It took him one year and a supporting cast here in Miami.
In its 39 years, the AFC East has lifted its Championship skirt 14 times for Miami, 10 for New England, 7 for Buffalo, 6 times for Baltimore/Indy, and has let New York have a pity **** twice.
But one thing the Jets have always brought to the table, if not wins, is a brash, cocky attitude and a speak-first mentality. It's sort of a running joke these days how many times a Jets player has 'guaranteed' something. Must be something in the water up there.
The Patriots have taken a different approach. Let the play do the talking (and back up the play with a few cards up the sleeves).
The Bills have slid perpetually into darkness in the last ten years. Sure, they show up to play, but between player-arrests, the Owner trying to move the team to Antarctica, and T.O., the team seems forever stuck in a rut caused by the pain of their Super Bowl losses. I can't blame them. If the Dolphins had just 3 shots at the Super Bowl in the history of the big game, had those 3 opportunites in 4 years, and lost all three, I would be the first person lining up at the methodone clinic. Although, at least Miami has girls in bikinis. Buffalo has old ladies in parkas.
I bring all this up because lately the 3 'other' AFC East teams have had rather loose lips and have been letting everyone know either they're not ready (Patriots), they're better than everyone else (Jets) or they are trying to end up in prison because it might be nicer than Ralph Wilson Stadium (talk about a douche-bag, naming your stadium after yourself - get ready for the 2010 Stephen Ross Stadium.)
Some examples:
BTW, Wilfork, you look more like a professional steak-eater than a football player in this video.
"The defense is oozing confidence. Maybe it's because it's facing the Jets' offense every day (ouch!), but there's a definite swagger. S Kerry Rhodes expressed the confidence the other day on his Twitter account, writing, "We will be the best defense in the league this year. I feel for the offenses we're gonna face.
He isn't alone. I asked LB Calvin Pace about Rhodes' statement, and Pace said of the Jets' defense, "I don't think you'll find a better team on paper." ~ Rich Cimini, NY Daily News
And I'd love to post something from the Bills but the last entry from Bills camp was from May 28th - a full week ago and it was about starting CB Terrence McGee blowing out his knee while covering T.O. The only other news was that T.O. was house shopping. Even the Sports writers up there have given up.
The truth of the matter is, it's not always easy being a Miami Dolphin, losing out on the lime-light because you're less suicidal than Buffalo, less egotistical than New York, and (sigh) just not New England, who even get more press coverage when they're taking a nap.
But some things I have noticed after years of following the Dolphins:
1. We have the best weather in the AFC East.
2. We've won more games, and division championships than anyone else in the AFC East.
3. An average game ticket for the Dolphins is exactly HALF the price of an average Patriots ticket.
4. (a-hem) hottest female fans in the AFC East.
5. Anytime we have a really crappy QB, we dump him immediately, saving fans from the frustration of having to see his face for years.
6. Despite the Jets fans theory that the Dolphins suck, Dolphins are incapable of actually physically sucking whereas a Jet engine, at it's very core function, is all about SUCKING in one end and THRUSTING out another. See diagram below...

Tin you're a funny bastard!
ReplyDeleteWilfork looks like one mean mofo.
Way to stand up for our team. We've had the best history in the divsion, and we're the champs we shouldn't take any crap from the other 3.
Tin is a funny dude. Early on when I first started going to the SS I thought he was hilarious. Then he got a little more serious, then funny again, then serious, now funny again. One thing for sure, the potential is always there. :-D
ReplyDeleteThe NY media creates the stupid shit the Jets say. This has gone on forever and I love it because it always blows up in their faces. LOL
Last year was the perfect example. The Jets were the most media covered team because of Brett Faaaavvvvray...
How did that work out? LOL
Tin, I posted some pro Patrick Turner comments on the SS blog where you thought I was anti-Turner. These were comments I made after the draft. Yes I have some stuff on file. LOL
You'll probably recognize them. No BS, they're from the days after the draft.
Here here!
ReplyDeleteROFL. Since you broke the F bomb ice, I suppose you are just going all out today. All this innuendo would have ffr...., well I think we all know what the rest of that sentence would be. I saw where Crowder was throwing some stuff out there too today. Like you, he's justified in saying it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like reason #4, even though I'm technically not in the category. Guys aren't the only ones who are fans. I'm just more vocal about it.
We have more Division Championships(14)than that grn tm has playoff appearences(12),and we beat Buff for 11yrs straight w'out a loss(22 straight W's),and ne cheated for some 10 yrs w'5 mentions of actual guilt vs"OUR"FINS,(we played'em @least 20 times in that 10 or so yrs,PLAYOFFS INCLUDED),you KNOW 5 mentions had to be the under in Vegas!! "OUR"FINS are the most recent addition to the AFCeast, and yet have dominated THE DIVISION for the most part..We are the most disliked team in the division b/c we reside in the south, therefore the entire division, and NFL for that matter has ALWAY's brought their A game vs the Dolphins,b/c of the teams charismatic history, and ability to beat his'ins w'yours'ins, and your'ins w'his'ins(BumPhillips)!!! GOFINS!!
ReplyDeleteActually we all entered the division simotaneously!!
ReplyDelete(What I meant was,the FINS are the most recent team to the league),from our division..
"and ability to beat his'ins w'yours'ins,and your'ins w'his'ins(Bu
ReplyDelete<div class="js-singleCommentText">mPhillips)!!! "</div>
<div class="js-singleCommentText">

<div class="js-singleCommentText">LOL</div>
<div class="js-singleCommentText">I have no idea what this even means!! lol
</div>
i'll go have a look but i believe you ;)
ReplyDeleteTIN,it's actually a BumPhillips quote in regards to DonShula!!
ReplyDeleteI feel for those harcore fans that have yet to witness a Dolphin SB W!!Though you've been waiting for that feeling for far fewer yrs than myself,I can reflect on those glory days, while your not able!!
ReplyDeleteThose that maintain their love for the FINS minus the chills of a SB championship, are truly HARDCORE FANS,and I can't wait till your able to feel what I've been able to reflect upon for the past 36 yrs!!
It's coming people,I can feel it in my veins!! MIAMI DOLPHINS!!
FUNNY AS HELL #6 w'illustration!!! LMAO!!
ReplyDelete...I love listening to 2.5 minutes of Wilfork explaining why hes NOT at the OTAs ...when we face them this year, wouldn't you love to see that vid run on the stadium monitor just before the game starts? :-D
ReplyDeleteThat man can ramble on for days! he should become a representative in the House. Talk about a filibuster!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the illustration;
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should call that grntms fans"the NOZZELS"..
I noticed that early in the process(coming into the game),the FAN is grn,and in the finality of the process(end of game),the exhaust is red, which is the attitude they leave the game with early in the 4th qtr even @home..HaHA!!
"NOZZELS",that way they'd get NO AIRTIME,and wouldn't even realize we're referring to them, leaving them no reason to chime-in.. LOL!!!
I have a couple of issues with that, nozzles only spit things OUT, and it was the pats fans that left the game early, lol.
ReplyDeleteI do like the idea of using code names for our opponents though...
The Nozzels were"spittin-out"of their stadium EARLY in the 4th in wk 17(due to a HIGH PRESSURE SHAFT(us) that COMBUSTED their CHAMBER),and once they realized it didn't matter if they won or not,(as far as the playoffs went),cuz Balt was rollin..
ReplyDeleteIt should have mattered to them anyways cuz it was vs their most hated rival, and it was the last 10 mins they'd be able to watch their team in action for the next 7mnths!! YAJUSTDONTDODATTLUEZERS!!
Watchin the"REDCOATS"fans leave EARLY in the 4th was FUNNNNNNNTOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!
GOOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHHH D O L P H I N S !!!!!
I am really late with this, but I just saw it and had to comment.
ReplyDeleteOne thing about a Jet fan with all that sucking and thrusting, I wouldn't bend over near any of them. :)
Where did you sit in the OB during those games ? I had 7 season tickets in those years and I could actually afford them at that time!! Now I can't afford one, and I know the tickets are really well priced compared to other teams around the Country. I really don't get all the complaining about ticket prices once you compare them to other teams.
ReplyDeleteFang,IF your question was directed @me??
ReplyDeleteFRONT ROW,corner of the endzone, flipper was in the same endzone on the other side..
That place was MAGIC!!!!
66-74 age 7 to 15,then I moved to CA on my own till 39(went to every westcoast FIN game while there,Az-Seat),came back to Fl @ 40...
ReplyDeleteI'd let'em suck the shit outta my azzz ;) ,but I agree w'the not bending-over in the vicinity of the thrusting..LOL!! :O
ReplyDeleteSo you're saying you're not a fan of the Jets fans? ;)
ReplyDelete\nRG might not be an issue.\n \nhttp://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-dolphins-thomas-fishing-060609,0,95617.story
ReplyDeleteWas it that obvious ?
