Vontae Davis NOT arrested!!?!!

According to the Sun-Sentinel's, Mike Berardino, Vontae Davis was not in Champaign, Illinois and not in possession of his expired license as previously reported in the Daily Illini, then in Pro Football Talk, then here, then in the various newspaper sites around South Florida, then probably on Mars. It was a bit of a non-story to begin with but in late June it was potentially reporter's gold!

Vontae has now been contacted and has straightened up the whole thing. He was at OTAs on the days of June 9th and 10th. While Berardino makes the claim that it would be physically impossible for Davis to make it from Davie to Illinois in 3 hours and back by 7am the next day, I will simply say the alibi seems reasonable, if not more probable than the crime.

So, apologies to Davis for jumping on the steam-roller and/or throwing him under the bus.

Yikes.  There's probably no long-term ramifications on this but it's not good for a player already with alleged character issues.  As someone who suffered through the Ron Zook era at UF, I already think that someone who would willingly play for him has a screw loose...

  2. Oh, come on, that's not fair, that's implying that the entire Illinois team is bonkers! lol

Damn, I just posted a beautiful Zook rant that disappeared.  Sigh.  Here's the cliffs-notes version:

-Yes, I think the whole team is crazy
-Zook deserves some of the blame for Vontae not reaching his full draft potential because he couldn't get through to him

    Thank you, drive through...

This happened on June 9th and it's no big deal.

  6. Media types are getting a bit carried away with some of this stuff.  I was taken to to the Police department way back when for a speeding ticket and no one reported that to everyone.  What's the difference here ?

Thsi is not a character issue this is a pesonnal matter.  It is nothing more than loud music and a person fitting a profile by the police department.  It was a little stupid of him driving without a license though.

  7. I didn't say it was a big deal but the boss man doesn't like this kind of press so I'm sure it will be pressed upon the players to stay out of the news and to take care of DMV records before driving and drawing attention to yourself by playing your music loudly.

It may not seem like a character issue, but if you get behind the wheel of a car you should be licensed and insured, and if you know you're not and drive off anyway you should not do anything to draw attention to yourself like blaring your music.  Did he commit a felony, no, is he stupid, probably.

  8. Fang why were you taken to the Police department for speeding?  That's unusual...unless you were going Haynesworth-speed?

  9. Wow, they arrest you and take you to the police station just for speeding.  Where do you live?  I don't ever want to go there.  With 3 strikes and you're out, I'd be a lifer by now!

BTW fang, I am planning a weekend with my old girlfriends and someone mentioned we needed brownies like we previously discussed here, and you mentioned a recipe.  Without annoying the blog, can we figure out a way to give it to me.  I don't really want to post my email address on here.

herd, he was most likely arrested for not having a valid license. That was the dumb part. The loud music, who gives a shit everyone does that from young people to soccer moms. I've heard loud music from all types of people.

  12. knight, I was replying to fang, but didn't put his name at the top. There weren't any replies when I started and I am distracted today. Juggling to many things.  I think I need to get blog posting for dummies.

  15. When I heard it on the local radio this afternoon,I laughed(too loud music),no license, what a joke..Then I thought, wait a minute,he was @ OTA's the past two wks,how could this be possible?? Maybe his problem child brother was using his identity?? Glad it wasn't Vontae,no matter how rediculous the charges, these fans will turn on a guy that farts in church..

  16. Well that's a long story. I'll try to give you short of it. Years ago Pembroke Pines Police department would take you in for speeding and other traffic offensives. They wanted me to pay the fine then and there or they would have held me over night. If it were not for a friend forking over the coins for the fine, my visit would have been longer. Technically I was told I was under arrest because of a speeding fine

Eventually they pulled over the wrong person and they filed a charge with the State Attorneys office, and that was the end of that practice.

Buy the way all this happened because I trying to get home and see the second half of a Monday night game. I was doing about 10 mph over the limit on what is now Pines Blvd. west of University.

  17. Tin I hope this doesn't offend anyone

I'll post it for you here it is : You can add what ever you please to make this recipe "smoke" if you get my drift. I'm not sure of the amount special ingredients you should use, that will be up to you to decide.

¾ cup of self raising flour
    1 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of cocoa Hershey's is fine
    1/3 cup of butter
    2 eggs
    nuts optional.
Melt butter and cocoa in microwave 30 seconds at a time on high.
Combine all ingredients above mix well.

Spray a 9 X 9 pan and bake in a preheated 350* oven for 35 minutes. These are great and easy to do.

  18. Fang:  Thank you!  I'm not sure about the optional ingredients either.  Should any liquid be added so they wouldn't be dry with that?

Our 'trip' won't be until the first of August, but if I decide to do a trial batch, I'll let you know!

I wish I could get arrested. I've been dying to be in handcuffs and handled roughly by men in uniforms.

  21. Dolphins | Davis cleared of charges
    Thu, 02 Jul 2009 14:44:05 -0700
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins CB Vontae Davis has been cleared of all charges stemming from a traffic incident in Champagne Ill., because the police are satisfied that Davis was not the person they pulled over. "We have dismissed the traffic ticket and ordinance violation issued in Vontae Davis' name. We are satisfied that he was not the individual we had contact with June 9, 2009. We are working to identify who the individual actually is and pursue charges against him. We regret any embarrassment or inconvenience this situation has caused for Mr. Davis," said John F. Murphy of the Champaign police department in a statement.
