Raging Bull Meets A Knight Out For Blood

While it hasn't been confirmed that the Dolphins have talked to Rutgers' stand-out WR, Kenny Britt (shown here jumping out of the stands to score a touchdown), they would be hard pressed to find a better option in the draft. Using the simplest math I can, if he's available at #44, we should take him. All this talk about his ego is overblown in my opinion. The guy's numbers speak for themselves. His biggest asset is his size. 6'3, 218lbs. Rumours have been flying for months that the Dolphins are interested in Brian Robiskie, who has similar height but a thinner frame. I think the Dolphins would be making a huge mistake picking Robiskie over Britt. Sometimes you have to go with the biggest, fastest, toughest mofo you can find, and one that believes in his own abilities. And that sums up Kenny Britt.

The only question is will he be available?

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed by some bloke in London (how does he know this stuff and the American sportswriters don't?) that the Dolphins HAVE met with USF's playmaker, Taurus Johnson (seen here scoring the touchdown of 2008 that almost wasn't). Johnson could show incredible value in the draft as he may not be picked until the 7th round. He ran a sub-4.5 40 at the combine and has the intangibles you look for in a WR. He catches with his hands, watching the ball come into his hands before turning upfield, he's not afraid to go over the middle and get smacked by a safety or two, and he does something that rookies and to be honest, most veterans rarely do. He stretches for first downs. In 16 games last year, I think I only witnessed Davone Bess and Anthony Fasano do this for the Dolphins. Anyway, Johnson did some amazing things with Matt Grothe throwing to him. It would be fun to see what he could do with an NFL QB that can put the ball on target.

Despite the chatter about Hakeem Nicks and Percy Harvin, my money is on one (if not both) of these guys being Dolphins next year. It has been widely reported that the Patriots are extremely ga-ga over Britt. They've tagged him as the possible replacement for Randy Moss. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the 'next' Randy Moss than the next Devin Hester (Harvin) or the next Michael Irvin (Nicks).

  1. Tin, I thought Robiske tested real well(hands, speed, etc.). I like Britt, but I want us to wait till the 2nd round to address.
We may look to trade Satele if the right offer comes along. If not we have 3 guys who can play center/guard and now w/Grove we are more physical upfront and have some depth behind him.

  2. Sorry to here they still havn't found your classmates Tin. I'm surprised you havn't mentioned it

I'm down for any steal in the 7th round. I still don't like drafting WR's high even if they're worth it. But if it happens I sure hope it's one of these better one's. I'm still got the 1st pegged for defense and hoping for a LB

  3. I think Robiskie has a failing and that is confidence.s At this point I don't want a 'project' or a guy who has to start believing in himself, I want a badass physical WR who KNOWS he's the bees knees and can blow up a secondary.s I don't think Robiskie is that guy.s I'm not going to post the full 20 minute long highlight reel, but guys like Britt and Taurus look for contact and YAC.s I think they both ran faster than Robiskie too.

  4. To be honest Phinatic, I've been reading about it all weekend and only have two things to say about it.s One, is that it sucks.s I feel for the families.s It would be one thing if those guys were being reckless but it sounds like the weather didn't change until after they had already departed and it sounds like they were all wearing life jackets as well.s So they were not being stupid or anything, it was just bad luck vs. mother nature, so I feel really bad for that.

The second thing is that I instantly recognized the survivor, Schuyler's name, and then was surprised to find out he never played in a game at USF.s Then I realized why I knew his name.s He was in the NCAA Football game, I forget which year.s He was a starter in the game, and I remember wondering who he was.s
    s
Anyway, if I do go off-topic in the blog, I want to keep it light-hearted.s I'm not CNN.s They can have it.

  5. Phinatic, I'm looking for a front seven guy on D, mainly LB.s It's shaping up that we take a WR early and that can be risky. Like Tin, I'm impressed w/Britt's physical style but I haven't seen much tape on his boy Johnson.

  6. Yeah the weather took a turn for the worse that night. 15 feet waves is pretty high for your average size personal boat. If it capsized you have to be able to hang on to the boat because if you get pulled away even with a life jacket you'll get dehydrated/tired real quick. Too bad, the longer the search the worse the prognosis

funny about the NCAA football game thing. I know some backups names I would never know if it weren't for Madden

  7. Tin,

I have all the sympothay for the families, but from what I am hearing is it was more then weather, they took a boat out that wasnt qualified to go out as far as they took it.

No matter, here's to praying it all ends well.

  8. Tin, I hadn't commented about the boat incident, I assumed you might've addressed it y'day when I couldn't get on the system. I woke up to 8.5 inches of snow on Sunday(melted by lunch)sand at the most expected a dusting, that's mother nature in a nutshell. I was hoping they would find the others today but haven't seen anything come across the computer.

  9. Well apparently I'm the one having issues commenting today. openID won't keep me signed in.

Anyway, on a much more trivial level, I had some trauma myself this weekend that soaked up my attention.s
    s
I did watch the news and read about it throughout the wekend but wasn't in the state of mind to comment on it.s I did chime in on the PFT discussions though.

  10. Horrible story about those guys. They called off the search. Very sad.

  11. If we want Britt we'll have to take him at #25 or trade down a few spots. I'm sure the Pats would take him at #34.

  12. Think we'd trade down before we drafted out of desperation.
    s
But it's been nothing but shock and awe this year from the Trifecta so who knows.

    CB blog is up.

  13. What was weird was when they found the boat, the water looked very calm and the former USF guy was sitting calmy on top of the overturned boat.s I wonder if the other 3 were drinking heavily or just because of their size got tired faster.s They were all wearing life jackets, so you would think they would be visible from helicopters.

  14. Good points. I don't know. It's very unfortunate. The ocean is a wonderful yet dangerous place.

  15. I agree. I was just saying I don't think Britt will fall to us at #44. Not just because of the Pats, I think he could go late 1st round.

  16. I see your point.s But then again, if you're going to draft a WR with your first pick, he'd likely be the highest one on the board at that point anyway.s I could easily talk myself into taking him at #25.s Especially if we could get Sean Smith at #44.s That would leave that next 2nd rounder with a lot of leeway as to what direction to go.

  17. I could live with that.

  18. I've a friend who works SAR for the Coast Guard, and he tells me the likelihood of spotting a lone victim in the water from a helicopter (even in a lifejacket) is like a needle in a haystack. The sheer expanse of the water they've got to look at means a tiny chop in the water could obscure the victim from the air unless you're right on top of him/her. I suspect the white bottom of the boat is what they saw first then noticed Schuyler (sp) when they went for a closer inspection. Per my CG friend he says if you're ever in a boating accident, to stay A)in the boat as long as possible, B)in a rescue/lifeboat if possible C)with larger pieces of wreckage if possible and to always look to get your body out of the water because of the danger of hypothermia.
    s
    God speed to those guys.

  19. These points should be a part of an annual training/permit application, but I don't think there is such a thing.s
    s
When I was a kid growing up, I never wanted to be a cop or a race car driver.s I wanted to be Coast Guard from a very young age.s I only changed my mind when I found out it was a branch of the military.s When I was younger you couldn't pay me enough to be associated in anyway with the military.s
    s
I think the CG has always been a sort of fuzzy blend of police, military, fire & rescue, etc.s so it is definitely a lot of responsibility and training going into it, and I would still want to be a part of it if I didn't get seasick in choppy water (never used to but somewhere around age 20 I suddenly developed sea-sickness AND sinus issues.s Used to be an avid diver as a boy/teen).

  20. After they called off the rescue by the coast guard, I saw the interview w/Tank asking for assistance by experience aviators to try and locate the missing. I have not heard any updates as they are/were looking for hope and closure.
