Tackle This!

Thanks to the hole in the roster provided by the waiving of TE Davon Drew, the Dolphins were able to add an offensive lineman to the 53 man roster.

Nate Garner has been activated from the practice squad.  This brings me back to being 3 players off on my projection from 10 days ago and brings the number of offensive linemen up to a secure 9.

I don't think any of us thought we would carry 4 TEs even though Sparano said it was discussed as a possibility. We don't have enough talent at the position to carry 4 in my opinion.

  2. no way knight, you are wrong wrong wrong wrong.  Mike Berardino said three was the new four.  And as you know, them beat writers are never wrong

  5. Hey guys - been away in the Scottish Highlands as the best man at a wedding so still catching up on what I missed. Not a lot from what I've read except for the INT from SS ..... that was nice. The roster is looking good and it looks like everyone is getting pumped - I certainly am.

Read a funny stat the other day - Detroit went 4-0 pre-season last year and 0-16 regular. Having said that, I have a gut feeling we may just squeak the Atlanta game if we can hold the line of scrimmage on D. I know pre-season is all vanilla too, but I've seen nothing to suggest we aren't going to be involved in a LOT more close games again this season - hopefully we end up on the right end of most of those.

Looks grim for tv viewing over here. So far I've got the Chargers game and the NFL Network game to look forward to on Sky, and Ch 5 have the Sunday night games, but no MNF this year. Looks like a couple of very late nights for me then watching live on the web!

What's going on at the SS? It's like "One flew over the cuckoos nest" these days .......

  6. glad to know i am not the only one that thinks the ss blogs have taken a real dump lately.

Looking forward to 'seeing' you at the game Sunday.  Don't go to the SS, assuming Tinshaker does the same chat/game viewing thing he did for pre-season games.  Pretty cool stuff.  Drinks will be served!!!

Really, I thought I saw Iowa's on the SS before you had anything posted on your blog. In fact when I posted the info. here it wasn't up yet. Not that it's a big deal.  :-P

    It's a banana?

    ReplyDelete
  21. You do know it takes a lot longer to publish a blog with photos and video
and text then tweet the link and then copy and paste the tweet to the SS
than to type out a few lines right?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, and yes, it's a banana....look at it...don't you know what a banana
    looks like?

    ReplyDelete
  23. AND Iowa said he ran a 4.77 when he ran a 4.70...doesn't accuracy count for
    anything anymore?
And he failed to mention the torn ACL...which is of significance don't you
    think?
    Seriously, dude, it's a banana...

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Knight who says Ni!September 9, 2009 at 12:55 PM

I never saw a banana with fins that jumps out of water. I can see how it can be a banana.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Knight - I thought I read it on the SS first, but if you check the time stamps, Iowa was 16 mins past the hour and Tins was 15 minutes past. So unless Tin can change his timestamp, he takes Gold and Iowa takes silver.

Tin, if it's a banana, where's the tarantula? ;)  Will you be wathcing the England soccer game btw?

    ReplyDelete
  26. no, I doubt I'd know any of the players.
btw, speaking of timestamps, the SS shows central time for me, anyone else
have this issue? like I posted something at 12:20 my time and the stamp
    says 2:20...
the Blogger template sets the timestamp automatically upon clicking

I said I can see how it can be a banana but it's been photoshopped obviously. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. what are you trying to say? Don't you have any faith in the possibility of
a banana that has some minor mutations leaping out of a body of water at the
exact time someone is taking a photograph?

    ReplyDelete
  37. She's Croatian. I didn't realize it was England vs Croatia. They seem to
play each other a lot don't they? My wife has no interest whatsoever in
sports though. If they were to win she might let out a small "woo-hoo!" and
then move on. I find it hard to watch Croatian games on TV with the
uniforms. Someone needs to tell them that they don't literally have to wear
their country's flag! Who is in goal for ENG?

  40. Time thing started messing up @ the SS about a month or so ago.  It is always 1 hour behind me, so like you say, Central time.  The time issue is the least of their concern at the present, IMO.  A certain poster is single handedly destroying that blog.  I hope it isn't contagious here.

What is with those muffin baking comments?  Am I totally clueless, does that mean something?

    ReplyDelete
  41. ...with Garner back where he belongs, Im off by two ...Hilliard and Anderson ...both of whom won't, imnsho, make it for very long on the 53 ...if Anderson gets activated in a game, his first penalty (a dead certainty imo) will send him packing ...and sooner or later they are going to need that Hilliard slot to meet real needs vs wishful thinking ...they can't activate him in the 46 just to play ST and they're certainly not going to inactivate Cobbs, RB, or RW just so he can play.

...besides the normal things I'll be watching w/Atlanta is if Henning springs PW in the WC or a spread option ...there have been lots of practices behind closed doors now ...which is how they developed the WC last year without anyone outside the team being aware of it until they burned the cheatriots with it ...TS has deflected most of the PW speculation by insisting he was being developed as a QB and only showing that in camp and preseason ...but the fact is, they took him with the 2nd pick when they already had Henne ...no one takes a third string QB with their 2nd pick ...I'm betting that we see PW in multiple formations in Atlanta, almost certainly listed as the 2nd QB ...PW isn't ready to replace Penne by any measure so if he goes down Henne will almost certainly be activated ...PW can damn well run the ball and was an excellent passer at WV out of the spread ...he's obviously had some problems learning to work under center ...but that won't stop them using him in the WC or spread option.

...if they are beating Atlanta out of the base offense, then Sparano will probably hold off on showing what's up his sleeve ...but if our offense sputters, it could get interesting real quick.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Tin - Croatia were in our WC qualifying group. 5-1 was the final score. The WC Finals start on 8th of June next year, so set your TIVO now - lol. Utd start their Ch. League grou games next Tuesday vs. Besiktas (Turks) who L'pool beat 8-0 last year =-O

Herd - I think it's an imposter and my reading of it is that you should be at home in the kitchen, not on a football blog. Agreed, the imposter is spoiling the blog. I plan to send Omar a note if it doesn't get better once the season kicks off. I hope Tin gets some bouncers on the door if the nutter(s) come over here?

  59. The Knight who says Ni!September 9, 2009 at 6:06 PM

TE is a position I feel we'll look at early in the draft. Whether we re-sign Fasano and I think we will or sign a free agent, I still think we draft a top TE if they're available. If not we'll take one where the value is. But we will look to upgrade that position next year. Along with LB, FB and RB. Oh of course, we have to find a NT. What am I thinking. LOL

I'm willing to see what Soliai offers this year before making that a priority. We need to find someone to groom, I'm not sure we find 'the guy' next year just because. Soliai has the prototype size, strength and athleticism for the position. His maturity has always been in question but it seems that Paul has begun to mature. He never forgot letting his team down the week we played the Ravens without Fergy and we couldn't stop the run. That bothers him. His weight was still an issue early in minicamp and OTAs and he took care of it shedding 12 lbs. and staying in condition and making the team. Those are all good signs. Now we need to see that continue and the result is more playing time and making more plays.

Soliai played about 10 plays per game last year. He needs to bump that up to 15-20 or more. That makes us a better defense and team. He's a tough guy to move. He has to use his skills now to make plays.

  60. Ive been reading the SS blogs and many of your comments (Tin and Company) for I believe more than 3 yrs now.  Anyway, I comment sometimes, when it doesn't seem like pointless talk with immature indivduals. Which brings me to my point. I like good opinions and discussion, not arguements and childish behavior, which seems where SS is heading. The bickering on that sight is becoming annoying to read and turning me off to be honest. I've been in the Marines almost 8 yrs and I'm about to graduate with a BA in econ and a minor in coaching sports. I'm telling you this because I just bookmarked your sight and will begin to follow it. I have thick skin I just choose not to get personal and cuss people out, but I will always debate different ideas and opinions! Through the years I believe, Tin, you seem to adhere to this philosophy and so please don't allow this blog to stoop to the levels SS has gone. Thanks and I look forward to a great Fin season.

It begins Sunday with a victory over Atl. 24-21. Fins get a turnover in the closing moments and drive for the winning field goal like Pennington knows how to brillantly accomplish. Notice I said "field goal" not touchdown. C Penn hasn't gained that much trust from me quite yet, but I believe he knows how to win and the leadership from the 4 chosen captains will show itself in the 4th quarter. The quality of men on this team is captured by their choice in leadership. The Miami Dolphins are again just that. Not one player, but a team!
