Dolphins FinalizeTheir 53-Man Roster - Updated

The Dolphins have done their final cuts and the roster is pared down to 53.

Those released today are:
OT  Nate Garner
WR Brandon London
OL  Brandon Frye
S    Courtney Bryan
LB William Kershaw
DE Rod Wright

OG Mark Lewis
WR James Robinson
LB JD Folsom
DE Ryan Baker

They also placed LB Matt Roth on non-football injury list.  Yesterday they waived CBs Joey Thomas and Will Billingsley.

This brings the total to 53.  The final roster has been updated on the sidebar of the blog.  Lex Hilliard has made it, along with 9 offensive linemen, 7 defensive linemen, and 6 outside linebackers.  Looking back at my projected roster I was off by 3 players.  I had London over Hilliard, Frye over Gardner, and Kershaw over Anderson.  I have to say I'm a bit shocked that Anderson made the cut, but now that he is going to be here, a special request to coach Sparano....please don't put him on special teams....

UPDATE:  According to multiple reports the Dolphins have changed their mind about waiving John Nalbone due to indications he would be claimed off waivers by another team.  They are apparently considering giving him Nate Garner's roster spot.

UPDATE:  Nate Garner has indeed been waived which means John Nalbone has made the final roster.  The Dolphins currently have 4 tight-ends, 4 tailbacks, and a fullback on the roster.  They have cut down to 8 offensive linemen.

  1. ...of the list I posted on 29 Aug, I missed by two ...I had Nalbone over Haynos, and Frye over Hilliard ...and I'm disappointed after the NO game that they kept Anderson over Kershaw ...Anderson is penalty prone and Kershaw played a much better game imnsho ...but the deck has been dealt and we have what we have ...and I can't say that I'm not looking forward to the Atlanta game when we find out what we really have this year ...its a tough starting schedule and we've not jelled yet ...so I'd not be shocked if we started 0-3 ...but thats where we were last year before things came together ...and wrote some NFL history.

  4. Yeah, I missed on Kershaw, and Frye being cut.   I thought Garner and Anderson were gone.  Though after Charlie Anderson showed up for the first time in that final preseason game, I had a feeling he was going to make it. A shame because Kershaw really gave maximum effort, and you saw him all over the field.  I guess the Trifecta has seen some potential in Garderner, because that guy seemed to be a human turnstile machine to me.  Just glad that Quentin Moses, and Jason Allen made it.  Hopefully, they are not churned by any waiver wire pick-ups.  Not sure there is a lot to go after seeing where we are slotted in the process and the names I have seen so far.  Especially since the Trifecta prefers youth and potential over veterans.  Already nervous about the Atlanta game.   Our offense needs to really step up, because 10 points is probably not going to cut it against the Falcons.  About the only thing I took away positively from the preseason was the depth on defense.  We should be able to rotate and keep guys fresh, and bring the pressure through 4 quarters this year.  That and having Donald Thomas healthy and dominating is a plus.  Let us just hope Jake Long does not have what is looking like a sophomore slump, or else Pennington is not going to make 16 games this year.  Screw this college football, I am ready for the big boys

  5. Looks like Miami is changing it's mind on Nalbone....

  6. Didnt know you could change your mind after the deadline about who to waive.  There is a take-back rule?  Learn something new everyday.  Did you guys see all the ex-Dolphins cut today?  My favorite Eric Green not making it in country club San Fran lol.  Kinda sad to see Jayson Foster get cut in Baltimore.  He had looked good this preseason, and I thought he might stick with there crappy wide receiving core.

  9. I had FRYE(long-time FAV),and London rather than GARNER and MOSES @ the almost forgot thread..
Other than losing my towering 3headed RZ threat,I'm not disappointed @all... YEAAAA HAYNOS/WALDEN!!!

  10. GLAD NOW,for MOSES!!!

Didn't see the update, don't take my HAYNOS,that would bum me..

Anderson play's well other than the penalties,(and he's a TriTuna guy)..
They should make him wear gloves minus the thumb slot,so he can tackle buy not hold..

  11. 54 WILL come back,if just to retire a DOLPHIN!!!

Rosters pretty tight toward's the future,(but we do only have 3 ILB's),that'd be pretty cool!!

I'm sure we'd un-retire him should we have an ILB misstep along the way..

Really?  We're going to keep 4 TE's?  That sounds retarded.

  16. ...there is simply no way TS goes with only 8 OL ...or more than 3 TE.

  17. i can't see 4 TE's and 4 TB's for very long.  i think they will shop a couple of them for a pick.

  18. Wow.  Good bye Nate Garner.  I think it's odd that we only have one backup Tackle & he's a rookie but like I said, I still think there will be a couple of roster moves before we start the season.

    BTW--Alabama is losing....LOL!

  19. ...this isn't over ...no way do these numbers add up ...4TE? ...8OL? ...5RB?
...Garner might make the PS but Haynos, Hilliard, and apparently Nalbone would be picked
...there HAS to be a big OL on the wire than TS thinks he can pick
...dear god the difference between 1 and 25 is night and day :(

  21. I tweeted earlier that half my 09 draft prospects were on the waiver wire,
especially the offensive linemen...but mostly interior guys. Still, the
Dolphins may be way down at #25 but so many good players were cut today a
couple of them should make it our way. Also, still possible we bring one of
    our cuts back.

  22. Tin, you need to take Nate off of depth chart.

  23. Thanks for reminding me

  24. Tins,

Did you see that the Patriots traded Seymour to the Raiders for a first round pick in 2011???  For a team that wants to win THIS year I don't understand that move.  I realize that Seymour is in the last year of his contract & going to command more money than they want to pay him but that's arguably their best defensive player!!!  I can understand if they made the trade before the draft or perhaps after seeing that they have a young player that can replace him but this can't be going very well in the Patriots locker room.

In addition with all of their picks, the Patriots are not hitting on player after player like they used to. Just to name a few---Maroney was a 1st round pick, the young QB they cut was a 3rd round pick, they traded David Thomas who was a 3rd round pick to the Saints for a 7th, Shawn Crable was a 3rd round pick.

IMO it appears that they don't have the great depth that teams need to win championships.  If they lose Brady for even one game, it's almost an automatic loss with Hoyer as backup.  They're also very thin @ OL, LB, & in their secondary.  Here's hoping I'm right!

  25. I just thought it was ironic to see Saban running a play that the Dolphins had success with.

    So it's 15 NEW FINS!!

Nalbone(place in TS heart)plyd w'son's in college,so he knows what the kid bring's!!
Haynos,6-8,270(need I say more),WILL be on the field in short yrdg, and RZ pass!!
