Training Camp - Day 5

Another two session day today and Twitter is broken. It's all Omar's fault, he's overloaded the system!

Yesterday was a good day in that Donald Thomas got on the field, albeit limited, and Matt Roth was riding the bike on the sidelines and getting more involved. Today should be a good day or reports, so let's get started:

  • Per Edgar Thompson: Channing Crowder and Jason Ferguson are both riding the stationary bike this morning. That's not good, but it will allow the coaches to get a better look at Soliai/Ellis/Cohen and Kershaw/Folsom/Martin.
  • Also per Edgar: "wide receivers are put in a three-point stance and told to block one another. Davone Bess absolutely handles Ted Ginn Jr."
  • Reports are SirVincent Rogers and Chris Brown are absent from practice. There's no reason for them to have been released today - we're already under the limit if we wanted to add someone, and they need the bodies at Tackle and Fullback. Brown worked with the 1st team yesterday.
  • The practice moved inside the bubble due to lightning, so fans SOL.
  • The biggest news, per Omar Kelly is that Donald Thomas is lined up with the starters at RG. This seems like a HUGE leap from playing one set of half-line drills yesterday. But I'm happy to hear it nonetheless.
  • It looks like the NFL trend of banning players from using Twitter has caused the company to go bust overnight.
  • Per Brian Biggane, PBP: "there were a couple of injury scares. CB Will Billingsley spent some time with a trainer looking at his right ankle at one point, and both CB Sean Smith and WR Anthony Armstrong were shaken up when they collided on a punt return drill. Both returned."
  • Twitterific: ArmandoSalguero"FB Chris Brown is not on the field so he's likely gone. What you get for hitting Rihianna lol"

  • Per Knight, via Brian Biggane via Coach Sparano: Chris Brown has been waived. The FB replacement is Matt Quillen. Tackle SirVincent Rogers left of his own accord.
  • Quillen is a 6'0", 250lb fullback undrafted out of New Mexico. He played in 47 out of 49 games and pretty much exclusively blocked out of the backfield.

Tin, am I going back in time or what? This is the most recent blog from Armando.

He has it as the first article under his head shot. I didn't see the date. It must be an IT mistake.

  4. Ok, I just clicked on my 'Dolphins in Depth' bookmark and it took me to a
Rookie Minicamp update. But the first time I clicked it today it worked
fine. Maybe there's some routing issues.

The article about Quinn is right under Armando's mug as if this is the latest and greatest. Darlington has his mug right underneath him. So they must have done some upgrading and links are probably messed up.

  6. oh, I never go to their football page so I didn't notice.
on another front, I left some great comments on the PBP blog which either
aren't getting posted or I've been banned.

Your comments aren't on the PBP blog. Why would they ban you? LOL

  8. I don't comment there very often, but when I do I tend to get a lot of
peanut gallery responses. It's like the mini-Herald over there.

  11. Why is it that all the rabid maroons are the primary readers of both those papers?  It seems like they all took irrational thought pills.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, Omar has answered that question several times but they still keep
asking so I guess we know who the biggest loser is.

The Herald has downright weirdos who must be from another planet. I can't scroll more than 5 or 6 responses without just leaving the site. They either kiss Armando's ass or chime in with their unearthly languages. It's very strange. I don't understand what prompts that sort of stuff on a Miami Dolphins football blog.

  14. Yeah it's offputting all the brainwashed cult-like response to Armando. If
you comment anything slightly contradictory, they all gangtackle you as if
    you mugged their mothers.

  18. You nailed it.  It seems ,being a Miami paper, that every latino will blindly defend anything that Mr. Enquirer says regardless of how little sense it makes.  Its comical.  If you disagree they call you every name in the book when the reality is they don't know a 3/4 from a 4/3.

  19. Wow, a new look here.  I'll have to investigate.  When it says add another profile, like facebook, does it allow people who are not my facebook friends to see my profile?  I like to think it should be a mutual consent kind of thing.  If someone is going to be able to see pics/info about me, then I want to see theirs too, if only to know if I would consider them creepy.  I guess I want to know what would be the benefit of doing it/what's in it for me?

    ReplyDelete
  20. herdfan, you don't have to add your facebook profile, it is an OPTIONAL
feature. The benefit would be if you were promoting yourself somehow, then
it is available. If you see no reason to use it, then don't! Now, if we
can get away from our obsession with commenting software can someone please
    test the videos here:

  21. It's not just you.  I tried it, Part one is broken, the others appear fine, although I didn't watch all, just enough to see video/hear audio.  After the it says buffering for a few seconds, then gives a black screen saying this video isn't available at this time, try again later.

    Thanks for the answer.

  23. But you know we all appreciate it!

I hope this isn't like that Monday Night Miracle thing I had the misfortune to stumble upon a week or so ago on TV. If it is, put a warning on it!  I don't know all the history.

  24. I thought you would've enjoyed that - seeing Pennington the rookie dancing
    on the sidelines.
If you're going to be a Dolfan you need to develop your Hate the Stinkin
Jets thick skin. We have lost several games like that in our history. The
truth is, it used to be every game between Miami/NY was good for 60 to 90
points and was a back and forth ordeal.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I must have missed that part of it.  I think I started watching around the beginning of the 3rd q, then had to get the kids in bed, and when I came back, =-O .   I sort of figured out where it was going, why they were replaying it, and stopped watching.   Why do that to myself?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh you missed the first half of total domination by Miami. I think we were
up 21 to 0 after the first Q then 24-7 at the half?

Is this the 51-45 OT game? That's like hanging a picture of the devil in a church. I can't look at it. I lived it and got laughed at by my friends who weren't so much Jet fans, just not Dolphin fans. No DEFENSE! We also got robbed when they didn't give a recovered fumble on a kickoff to us (Offerdahl).

    No problem.

Sean Smith is fine, just a slight knee bruise in a collision with Armstrong. Ferguson was kicked in the shin on yesterday, justing getting some time off. Crowder is getting a break with some knee soreness, nothing serious, his usual knee issues. It's probably the strain with all these practices.

  32. Everyone knows that the twitter virus was launched by nonother than Roger Godell himself.  Its one way to end the senslessness.  At least we dont have to know what TJ Whosyomamma had for breakfast or hear about Mark Schlerth (sp?) and Chad 85 having a war of tweets.  WHO CARES?!?!?!?!?!

Quillen is the smashmouth lead blocker we're looking for though. Or at least he was at the collegiate level. At under just 6-0 and 250 he's not a threat with the ball but he's that classic battering ram. We'll see.

Some NFL tidbits I came across were C Al Johnson who we picked up during the season last year has been released by the Pats. It appears that his knee problems may have taken their toll.

Tin, your boy S William Moore (Falcons) will be out 1-4 weeks to have a knee procedure.

  43. I can't get any dolphins info but I did see that the Pats have solved their
pass-rush problem. In the same story, the Raiders continue to intentionally
try to field a bad team.

    LOL

Okay the Raiders trade DE/OLB Derrick Burgess to the Pats for their 3rd in 2010 and 5th in 2011. Like Tin says the Raiders must be planning on getting good for the next ice age. WTF?! LOL

Burgess has been up and down, injured and inconsistent his entire career but he did have 16, 11 and 8 sacks in 05, 06 and 07 respectively. He had 3.5 last year in 10 games. He's missed 43 games in a possible 128 over 8 seasons. He's been banged up in other games as well. He's a high risk/reward guy. When he's healthy he's very good, but he's not always healthy. He'll also be 31 next week.

Decent deal for the Pats because you can't find pass rushers this time of year. Bad deal for the Raiders because they have no direction and need the best talent they can get. They have a handful of good players, questionable ownership and coaching. Who's their QB? They'll be lucky to win 7 games.

  49. the pats deal is for a 3rd and a 4th in 2010, but if the Pats acquire a 5th, that would replace the 4th.  no 2011 picks involved.

The National Football Post reports the New England Patriots have traded a third-round draft choice in 2010 and a fifth-round draft choice in 2011 to the Oakland Raiders for DE Derrick Burgess.

  51. knight, forget them, the New England Patriots released the details. 3rd and

  53. no, I can't get any streaming stuff at work. I work in Sacramento, CA, but
all our network stuff is routed through HQ in Atlanta, GA. How retarded is
that? plus now the IT dept is blocking 65% of the web, and the sites they
aren't blocking take ten minutes to load up. They did this a couple weeks
ago but then things went back to normal for a week, then it started up this
way again yesterday, which is why I didn't update in the afternoon.
