CONTEST # 4 - Just Draft It!

First Prize is a $50 gift certificate to NFLshop.com.

Second Prize is a $25 gift certificate to NFLshop.com.

Third Prize is a $15 gift certificate to NFLshop.com.

OK, here's how this will work.

All entries MUST be e-mailed to 'tinshaker@gmail.com' with the subject "CONTEST".

All entries must be in my inbox by midnight Eastern time on April 16th (Friday night).

Ok, now the actual contest.

Below are ten questions/challenges. In parenthesis are the point values for each question. The fan with the most points wins, with the second most points comes in second and so on. In the case of a tie for first place, the tie breaker question #11 will be used to break the tie, and the loser of the tie-breaker then becomes the second place finisher. This would push the second placer down to third, etc. The same tie-break formula would be used for a 2nd or 3rd place tie-breaker. If there is a three-way tie (or more) and the first tie-break results in two or more people still being tied, then the order in which I received the e-mail entry will be used to number the entrants, and I will then use a random number generator to choose a winner. Only other rule is that Tinshaker can't play.

Here are the questions:

1. Predict the first five picks in correct order. It doesn't matter if a team trades the pick, the number of the pick is what's important.
(1 point for each name, 1 point for being the correct number/name combo, and bonus 3 points for getting all five picks perfect). note: you may get a couple of free points here.

2. Predict the teams that will draft a QB in the first round. (2 points for each correct team)

3. Predict how many Offensive Linemen will be drafted in the first round w/ bonus if you can name them. (3 points for getting the number of OLs right, 1 point for each correct name you list, however, you will lose a point if you list someone who is not chosen in the first round. Example: if the answer is 5 and you choose 6, you will lose a point for each incorrect name, and you'll score no points for getting the number wrong).

4. Predict the first cornerback chosen. (2 points for name, 2 bonus points if you name the team that picks him)

5. Predict the first safety taken in the draft. (2 points for name, 2 bonus points for team).

6. Predict the number of times Pat White will be mentioned during the NFL Network  live coverage on day 2. (this could also be a good drinking game, 5 points)

7. Predict all 10 Miami Dolphin draftees. (since there may be trades, I have to grade this by each pick. 3 points for each player correctly identified in any order. No matter how many picks we end up with, a bonus of 12 points will be given to each entrant who correctly predicts at least 50% of the players).

8. Predict the first 10 wide receivers drafted. (2 points for each name, 10 bonus points if you get them all right in the right order).

9. Will the Dolphins trade up, down, or stick with the #12 pick? (4 points)

10. Predict the position of the first Miami pick, ie DT, WR, CB, etc. All pass-rushers under 265lbs will be considered an OLB for this question. (10 points)

Tie-Breaker:

11. Guess how many combined-college-career touchdowns were scored by all of the 2010 Miami draftees. (The closest wins, and TD passes count, whether it be a QB or a halfback option, as do special team TDs, and defensive TDs). Yes I know this is hard but that's why I said 'GUESS'. The best way to do this would be to take your answers from question # 7 and add up the TDs for those players.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see, it's very unlikely there will be any ties, but #11 is the tie-breaker so think about it for 5 seconds and make a guess. If two entrants are tied, and one fails to answer #11, but the other does answer it, the latter would automatically win. Even if he/she put 3000.

Any questions should be addressed in the comments section so everyone can see the question/answer.

Once again, entrants must e-mail their entries to me by midnight Friday, the 16th. Good luck!

  1. Damn Tin, my brain hurts just thinking about all these questions...

  2. I think I finished in 3rd or something last year. I did win a prize, I think a $15 NFL.shop gift that didn't work every time I tried to use it. Not blaming you Tin but being that it was only $15 I let it go. I wanted to get a hat. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  3. Judging by your avatar, I don't think you would have found a hat to fit you anyway.  :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Everyone else's GCs worked....perhaps it was user error?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I found one.  :-D

    ReplyDelete
  6. You can see it better here.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I tried it a few times and it kept saying the code was off or something. Who knows the site could have been buggin at the time. It's not impossible. No biggie, I still appreciated the gesture.

    ReplyDelete
  8. LOL, I was going to say that looks ridiculous, but I realized the Enchanter looks ridiculous without the hat as well.

    ReplyDelete
  9. This will be fun...I'm in. Just to clarify, only one submission? In other words, can we change our answers anytime before the 16th?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Enchanter's who hang around in the highlands blowing up rocks are allowed to wear Dolphin caps.  :-P

    ReplyDelete
  11. no, only one submission please

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks Tin.  Looks like fun!

  13. How COOL is that Tin?!?!?! I don't know much about college football other than what I read on here, so I don't think I will be brave enough to enter, but I just wanted to say ya know---HOW COOL ARE YOU? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. LOL, thanks Slush.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Aw come on Slush, enter....I was almost in contention for a prize last year but the Pat White thing f'ed me up...I had him as a pick, but then the tiebreaker got me if I remember it right.  You can't do any worse that I do!  Wouldn't it be totally cool if two chicks beat these guys!  LOL  ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh, I should mention that it is free to enter (just takes some time) and don't be intimidated by Knight/Enchanter - keep in mind he couldn't figure out how to use his 3rd prize, and despite coming in 3rd that time, he did really miserably in at least one of the other contests.  I don't want to say how miserably, but if this were American Idol, he wouldn't have gotten past the first audition - he would've been the guy in the Star Trek costume singing Lady Marmalade in falsetto...

    ReplyDelete
  17. One more thing, you're going to have to change your avatar.... *DONT_KNOW*

    ReplyDelete
  18. I did miserable in which contest? The obscure one with things like "which Dolphin is in this picture?" and they're all 10 years old? I still say that big kid looked more like Tim Bowens than Ginn looked like Ginn. LOL

As for the gift certificate, I'm telling you it was not being accepted by the NFL shop. You put in a code and it says no go. What is there to figure out?  :-E

    ReplyDelete
  19. Two chicks beating these guys, or do you mean spanking?  ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That would depend on which of the guys it was...hehehehe!!  j/k...I don't want to get something started here... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. NO FAIR,I ALREADY GAVE ALL THE ANSWERS @ the last blog,
and now I have to pay a 50$ grand-prize just for it to get read,LOL!!!

    CONTEST SEEMS LIKE WORK!!

  22. I can't imagine Tin just wanting to give away $90 in Dolphins fanware easily....assuming whoever wins will be buying Dolphins related things.

To whoever asked yesterday, yes this is the French flag and bonne soiree a toi aussi de Paris. >>>(For the non-francophiles: good evening to you as well from Paris)

STARKS a FREE MAN!!! I see him TAKING-OFF this year!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Just watched a great hockey game. Rangers and Flyers. It was like Parcheesi on speed. LOL

Tin, I'd like to thank you for making me do a 10 pick draft for the Dolphins. Talk about taking a journey into the abyss.  :-E

    ReplyDelete
  25. 13 don't worry so much all your picks are wrong anyway.  :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Starks is talented and what's interesting about him is he's only 26 years old with 6 seasons under his belt. He doesn't turn 27 until December. He'll be a staple for at least another 3 years.

He played 4 years as a rotation DT in a 4-3 at Tennessee. Very much like Merling has done his first two years in Miami in a 3-4 as a DE and DT in 4 man fronts. With young guys, sometimes it takes some time.

Merling will be 25 soon. Wow... what a bust! LOL

Keep your eye on this kid. He has stud potential.

Teams that are made up of mostly really good 25-30 year old players are better than teams made up with really good 20-25 year old players. That experience factor is huge. We're teetering with that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is where I must part with you my brethren.......you are too gifted in the talent evaluation dept.........I can't hang...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I DOUBT there ALLL wrong, bet you hope there ALLL right!! :-$
(B/C I like to get gyz 15-20 pks beyond their projections),WHENEVER POSSIBLE!!!

I usually get 5 gyz outta my 5 scenario's,and most the scenario's are simular(cept for a guy or two)!!!
Sometimes the names are changed to protect the innocent, but the position's are right,LOL!!!

HOWEVER,w'50$$ on the line I had to take a different approach in the contest
(in comparison to MY scenario's @ the Ireland PC blog)...
In the contest,I couldn't HOPE for gyz to fall,I had to go w'guys I thought would definately be @ said pks,
so my contest MOCK looks a LIL-bit different than yesterday's thought's,
but I STILL feel strongly about MY previously posted mocks...

    GOOOOAAAAHHHH    M   I   A   M   I        D    O    L    P    H    I    N    S   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those that I feel for,(NEVER-YET being able to witness the GLORY of a MIAMI DOLPHIN SB CHAMPIONSHIP)!!

CAN'T WAIT to feel that joy AGAIN, so a replay will have to do,(FOR NOW!!!)   GOFINS,whip the skins!!!YEEHAAA!!

  30. Tin,

Is there a possible bug in Q2? You wouldn't want any underhand entrant to nominate all 32 teams on the basis that everyone they got right they amassed 2 points and any they got wrong went unpenalised? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes.  I have a headache after the first questions.  Good luck to everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL!!!  Great point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 13kv,

Since I was born in 1972 & didn't become a Dolphin fan until some years later, it has been a long & difficult road.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I AGREE,on ALLL 3 points !!!

FUNNY how some think,(IFF a gyz not an INSTANT starter/star) he's an absolute bust,
there's no place in the league for him,and he's not even worthy of a roster spot..

Some gyz/stars didn't excell until well after their 2nd contracts,
sometimes 9-10 yrs in,and then suddenly become a intricate contributor/leader to SB Champion's!!

MERLING DOES have ""STUD potential"", after-all I did predict him @ 32,(PRAYED he'd fall due to inj)!!
    STARK's is about to explode,
MERLING WILL be able to fill-in admirably across the line until it's his time to shine!!

And then those critic's that would only be able to carry a 2 to 3 man star-filled roster will be saying,
    "Damn I forgot each position carries @least a 3 deep roster,but I F'd-up & wanted only superstars"...

TG MIGHT be a bust of a #1 WR,but most WR CORPS are @least 5 deep,
(CURRENTLY he's @THELEAST a very talented #5),and worthy of a FIN roster spot,
and CURRENTLY 99 WOULD BE @THELEAST the 2nd best LB on "OUR" team
while also being worthy of a FIN roster spot!!!
    IT IS A 53 MAN ROSTER,PM,TG,& JT ARE @THELEAST the 51st,52nd,and 53rd BPA!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. YEA BRO, Like I said  ""I truely feel for the LOYAL FANS that haven't felt that HONOR""!!

I was 13,14,and 15 and lived in MIAMI during "OUR" 1st 3 SB appearences,(TRUELY MAGICAL!!)
And "OUR" team was only 5 yrs old in it's 1st SB appearence vs Dallas !!

IFF NOT for the WFL buying-off LCsonka,PWarfield,JKicck, and 1 or 2 of our starting OLineman,
we'd of LIKELY WON 2 to 3 more SBs in the 70's,(WE WERE DOMINATE on ALL 3 sides of the ball)!!

It's been 38 yrs since the UNDEFEATED SEASON, and I'll STILL have tears of joy during 2nghts airing!!
    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD STUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!  ENJOYYYYYYY!!!!! GOFINS!!

  36. I'm sure Tin isn't bound by contract, if he see's someone douching it up he can just dismiss it, I would assume anyhow. >.>

  39. We Have PlaymakersApril 12, 2010 at 6:22 AM

The Jets got Santonio Holmes for a 5th round draft pick????  Not only are the Steelers insane but where the hell is Ireland when this is going on???  If we were willing to sign Ferguson who is going to miss half the season then why not go after a very good WR that is going to miss the first four????

Our secondary has to cover Braylon, Cotchery, Keller, & now Holmes???  Too much to ask for especially without a starting FS.  This trade is a steal for the Jets & again we're asleep at the wheel.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I just saw that the Steelers traded Holmes to the Jets for a 5th. WTF? A 5th? Why because he has that legal issue? What's next the Steelers are going to trade Big Ben to Buffalo for a 3rd?

    ReplyDelete
  41. We Have PlaymakersApril 12, 2010 at 7:04 AM

    Tim,

The question is where were we???? And if we trade Ginn what the hell is he worth???

In addtion to his legal problems off the field, Holmes is starting the season with a 4 game suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy.  He's going into the last year of his contract but to only get a 5th round pick???  That's still stealing by the Jets.

    ReplyDelete
  42. We Have PlaymakersApril 12, 2010 at 7:11 AM

I'd feel a whole lot better if we had a proven FS & a couple of major pass rushers.  With that said, JT is going to be 36 so I'm not sold on him being the answer BUT we need something.  If we can't get consistent pressure on opposing QB's it's going to be a very long season.

  43. Dolphins on the clock at http://www.gbnreport.com in a live mock draft.
The Broncos took Rolando McClain. Just scroll down a little on the home page to find instructions.

    ReplyDelete
  44. not really because you have to get the question 100% right to get the
points. You don't get any points for being partially right, or for trying
to load the question. You only get credit for being 'exactly right'.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Tinshaker,

I'm with Pat White on this one.  He's definitely better off playing baseball.  The upside of playing baseball is that he won't get absolutely CRUSHED the way he did last year.

As for Ginn, he's definitely going to get my vote for having the cleanest jersey on the team.  F#cking cissy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. WHP haven't we gone down the path of trading draft picks and picking up FAs in the past ?  I think so... Do you remember how that worked out ?

All of us would like to see a quick turn around for the Dolphins, but it appears we are not going to see it.  The team is getting better it's just a slow go that's all.

Who is to say if Jets are any better than last year, or even as good as the dolphins are.  Fact is we don't know.  On paper they look awesome, but they also have allot of charactors on that team.  I don't want to see us go down a road we have tried before that didn't work.

We are headed in the right direction, or I hope we are.  Parcells signed up for 5 years and it looks like it will take 5 years to be a contender.  The team was a real mess, and the win it all this year mentallity put us in that spot.  I hope I never see that again.

  47. We Have PlaymakersApril 12, 2010 at 1:03 PM

    Fang,

I see your point BUT it's a 5th round pick for Santonio Holmes???  Are you kidding me???  The guy had 79 catches for 1248 yards!!!  And it's a 5th round pick!!!  Of course he's a risk off the field otherwise he wouldn't be available but in the 5th round what would we be giving up???  Another Chris Clemmons???  The chances of finding a player as good as Holmes in the 5th round is extremely improbable.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We Have PlaymakersApril 12, 2010 at 1:05 PM

    Fang,

We were 7-9 last year & all we have done so far was to add one good ILB & a Guard whose nickname is "Dark Richie."  Why is Holmes more of a risk than "Dark Richie?"

    ReplyDelete
  49. Because Holmes was a street drug dealer in South Florida, and is suspended
for the first 4 games of the season. He also makes CJ Spiller sound like
    Albert Einstein.

    ReplyDelete
  50. WHP  I wish the dolphins could make every move we would like to see.  It's just not possible, as we all know.  If they could Matt Roth would still be here with a new contract and we wouldn't be looking at OLB that are a reach at the 12 spot.

    ReplyDelete
  51. WHP,as you know we don't have a 5th rndr,which means he'd of cost us a 4th!!!

Impressive stats last yr,(but b/4 that he only made one notable catch in however many yrs),
though his character issues ARE consistent!!!

IMHO,we can do better (longterm) by the 3rd rnd!!!

    FANG,
We'd STILL need another FEARED PASS-RUSHING OLB (99 or 1st or 2nd rndr) even w'MRoth,
(WAKE WON'T be a force vs contant double teams),but yea the pos wouldn't be as critical(W'MR/99)!!

I don't think the draftee OLB types are that much a reach @12!!
    (They'll play the same whether we pk'em @ 12 or 20)!!
But as you all know, I'm hoping to trade-down to b/t 14-17 just for the sake of principle...

I'm STILL in TG's corner,(but for the sake of example),
would he have been any better (THUS FARR), IFFF he were pk'd where he was projected???

Would TBrady have been better than he is,IFFF he were pk'd by NE in the 7th rnd or the 1st??
BOYYYY NE had no-clue for the 1st 5 rnds of that draft!!
(HENCE CRAPSHOOT),you play the cards your dealt, and hope for a WILDCARD!!      GOFINS!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. <span>Tin, you've gotta love the way this organization has turned the media into circus clowns! In the Herald it's all about poor Jason Taylor's meeting being leaked and in the Sentinel poor Pat White is upset about being asked to perform up to his draft status.</span>
    <span></span><span>
Meanwhile back at the bat cave...</span>

Batman, the boy wonder and Alfred are using the machine with all those knobs and buttons to analyze who they intend to pick with the 12th selection while misdirecting the media away from any clandestine meetings going on right under their noses. It makes one wonder whether there is more loyalty inside the organization than the media would ever consider and they are being played like puppets on strings. It’s a stretch, but having Taylor and White in on such things would be really funny for those guys and in actuality it would bring the team closer together.

I look at all these stupid gadgets, twitter, facebook, etc. and think does anyone really care if Pat White is waiting for his momma in the freaking grocery store? But, if these social networking “tools” (great word for that crap) could be used to steer the media and in turn the fans and other teams away from the true agenda, now that would be genius. I’m probably giving them far more credit than they deserve but it’s definitely something I would do in their place.

Speaking of this GD facebook, I played golf in a scramble yesterday and was invited by a couple lady friends… Of course I was not stupid enough to tell the girl I was dating I was going to play golf with a couple hotties, but alas, there on facebook (however the hell that works) was a picture of Patrick, 6 beers in with my arms full of tang… I could tell by the silence on the phone line, the winds of social networking had blown my cover and rendered me girlfriendless yet again.

If only George Orwell had lived long enough to see his machinations turn into reality…

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm not an expert on facebook or anything, but surely you could've just sent
a message to whoever posted the photo to take it down? Or did it show up on
all your friends' pages saying 'Patrick has been tagged in this photo?'
Yeah, that's why I only friend ugly male friends on facebook...

    Patrick,

I'm not sure if Big Brother is watching you just yet but the bigger our government becomes the more that the book 1984 will appear to be prophetic.  If Obama gets re-elected then I'd say Orwell was about 30 years off.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Patrick:
Sooo, how incriminating is this photo? lol   I assume these hotties tagged you in the photo or the GF would never have seen the pic.  If they knew you were seeing someone, that's what I would call relationship sabotage...they meant for her to see it.  If its just a pic of you and a hottie on each side...what's the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  57. sigh....you can 'untag' yourself if someone tags you and you don't want it on there...then there isn't a link...the photo is still there though.  I try to set my privacy so that only people I know or 'friend' can see stuff...but who knows...I've never tried looking at it to know if that works or not.  Of course I don't do anything that incriminating...or if I do, no photos!!! lol

    ReplyDelete
  58. Herd - Tin, I really don't know too much about Facebook, but there it was in living color... It was a bit compromising because there was this cart on the course with jello shots and sometimes people put them on different parts of their body and I'll just let you take it from there. And yes Herd, no one likes this girl. She can be a royal "B" but she also is quite talented in other aspects so like in all things there is a certain amount of give and take. It's okay, after a while the "B" overcomes the talent as a matter of course.

    ReplyDelete
  59. what's wrong with being in a photo with two hotties? Herdfan, you clearly
    do not understand women....lol
