  1. That Andy kid looked pretty good.  What is the good and bad on him?

  2. I don't know anything about him - but from the video his technique is fantastic - could use some punch, and occasionally follows blocks too long (I don't like seeing the LT drifting over behind the RT....he's got to keep the pocket, but other than that he looked great.

  3. Tin, Can you do a right up on what you know of the other players?  You da man! Thanks.

  4. great, now we can move j long over to right tackle and make randy happy.  LOL

  5. lol Same, I was like Andy Leavine...WHO!? I expected us to bring a tackle in, but this guy was a head scratcher, never even heard of him. Either way, I agree with you on the video, looks damn good from that video, a few real good highlights against high level opposition... Florida/Alabama. We need some tackle depth, though I suspect John Jerry's versatility to kick out if we get massacred with injuries is part of why he's here.

  6. tin,

you show ivey as from ECU yet he has on a terps shirt.  guess he thought he would have a better shot in a terps shirt lol

  7. 42 reps at 225lbs means this kid has hulk like strength at 6'5"!

  8. The Dolphins have told him that they're looking at him as a center, the position he played in high school.

  9. oops, its a typo. He's from Maryland

  10. Don't forget Andrew Gardener. They changed his body last year and he should be in better shape to compete at OT this year.

    ReplyDelete
  11. We also need to see if Andrew Gardner's testicles have dropped

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmm...I read the article and nowhere was there a quote from the Dolphins
saying anything about Center....just a supposition from the author of the
    article without any backup.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I could see him as a center though, based on his build and watching how he blocked in those highlights.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well based on his footwork and stance in the vid I would project him as a
left tackle, but it's well documented my hatred of the entire center
    position! lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay, try this one.  Technically, you could argue that they just "asked" him if he could play center and this other writer is making the same assumption but... c'mon, it's pretty clear that the Fins at least want to try him at center.

  16. I'm not saying that he isn't being brought in as a center - but the reality in my head is that he's a rookie free agent - he's reporting to rookie camp, where the o-line looks like this:

Tackle - Lydon Murtha, Andrew Gardner, Andy Leavine.
Guard - John Jerry, Dmitri Tsoumpas, Ray Feinga, Andrew Hartline.
    Center - ???

This could be a very good reason why they asked him if he could snap the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  17. just to expand on the rookie camp thing, you know john jerry can't snap the ball past his belly and neither can Feinga.  I think Tsoumpas and Hartline are more G/T types.  Leavine played center in HS and Tackle in college - i'm sure he'll get tried at all positions during camp.

  18. So anyone got any early predictions on which Dolphins rookies will be first year starters? I mean sure it's probably gonna be as accurate the guys putting out 2011 mock drafts already... but ya know, for giggles.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Odrick, Misi and Edds will play in certain packages from day one.  I'll call Misi a starter at SOLB and Odrick at RDE this year.  No one else will do much more than backup and play special teams ths year.  Jones and Edds will eventually be starters in later years, maybe Jones, too, but at SS as Bell's replacement.

Warning: This is total BS guesswork.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Typo: I meant "Jerry and Edds will eventually be starter".

    ReplyDelete
  21. The not so obvious message coming out of this draft is a great big wake up call to Mr. Merling... Moving Starks to the inside and then drafting Odrick gives me the impression Sparano is unhappy with Philip Merling and is ready to move on. Merling simply has not produced what was expected of him based on his draft status. I would not be surprised if his days with the Dolphins are numbered. They have been very quiet about it to keep his stock high but a trade would not surprise me.

The key guy in this draft is Rashad Jones... The FS position has been a sore spot for Sparano since he took over the team. He has not been able to settle on the right guy and those big plays we continue to see at inopportune moments are a reflection of the lack of a playmaker at this position. Jones needs to be the steal of the draft or we might be looking at Rodney Harrison in a Dolphin uniform if Jones does not show early he is ready to play.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really doubt Merling will be traded. This regime believes in a heavy rotation of d-lineman to keep them fresh as the game progresses. Jared Odrick probably speaks to their faith in Merling not to be a starter, not the idea that he won't still have a heavy role with this team.

Randy Starks took 730 snaps. Kendall Langford took 581 snaps last year, Phillip Merling took 376 snaps. Tony Mcdaniel took 315(Tony Mcdaniel graded out horribly in comparison to the others so it probably also has something to do with not increasing his workload). Keep in mind Tony Mcdaniel is in his final year of contract and I doubt he's resigned... unless it's for pennies. I think the goal is an Odrick/Langford/Merling trio at end heading into the future. Even if Merling was good they don't want just 2 capable ends, they want at 3 at the very least.

  24. Tryptich, I agree it's unlikey but I don't believe they are very happy with him and I think they want to send him a message.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Only that it's Tinshaker's birthday today...but there's still time to go get him a present...lol

  32. LMFAO. Happy b-day Tin!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey Tin - happy b-day. A cyber kiss of Herd - what more could a man want? Well, maybe she could throw a few after pix in too??? lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've seen those after pics - all scars and bruises - no thanks!
All I want for my b-day is the EPL Trophy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm with you there - natural is best!
As for the EPL, you'd better be cheering for L'pool as a win (or possibly a draw) for them over Chelsea on Sunday represents the best (only) chance Utd have left. Here's a bold claim - as of now, were I a betting man, I think the Fins have a better chance of getting to the SB than United have of winning the title. Yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ffr - I think you are confusing the offer - nowehere did Herd offer to "kind of anything". Those NLCs have fogged your brain!

  40. Looks like I missed all the fun, anyways, don't worry Tin there's still life after your 20's, Happy Birthday..

As far as FS goes, many people keep saying we need a pure cover guy, but I wonder if, much like our Dline and LB corps, we're going with versatility instead of two defined roles.  But maybe we are going with two interchangable ones.  If I understand Nolans scheme correctly it differs from Pasq D in that we won't be subbing specific players as much for certain packages.  All our players will be required to play multiple roles, and the offense will be challenged to anticipate what we're doing.

So my question is, if versatility is our Ds theme, are Clemons and Jones two guys you could possibly call 'tweener' FS/SS?  Tough enough at the LOS but still good (not elite) in coverage.  Maybe those two are our guys and Bell and Culver are around until they take the helm?  With better coverage LBs, and wiser (hopefully) CBs, maybe there won't be such a demand for an elite pure coverage FS?

  41. There's a lot of hot air in this article and plenty of anti-phin sentiment, but one line made me laugh "..........with the comprehensive coverage that’s evidently offered by the Dolphins’ dental plan"

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-trippintuesday042710

If it's true though, Ireland's flagging "fan popularity" isn't going to revive anytime soon. I sure bet he wouldn't have asked Ray Lewis that question. Or Odrick for that matter!

    ReplyDelete
  42. ...Happy Birthday Tin ...and here's a gift for you to enjoy, eh 8-)

    http://www.realclearsports.com/blognetwork/rcs_sidelines/2010/04/reviewing-the-mock-drafts.html

...I compared your posted mock draft to these "experts" and you actually beat one of them!

...your numbers by their columbs were: 6|3|0|7|4|11|8|364

...not bad at all for a working stiff fan :-P

  43. uk,

not confused at al, i think you might be, maybe you need some NLC's to unfog your brain. LOL

i never said anything about herd offering anything, i just said it suck tin got nothing but wood for his b-day.

    btw tin, happy b-day

  44. Is it really your birthday!?????? Happy Day of Birthing Tin Man! Shake it...

    ReplyDelete
  45. that is to funny.  if ireland has asked me that question, i wouldn't of kicked is teeth in, but just told him, 'yeah, she is, but you aint be livin till yuse gottin a round da world from ma sista fer $4"

    ReplyDelete
  46. Indeed, Happy Birthday Tin, have a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. He wouldn't have asked Ray Lewis or Odrick because he wouldn't suspect their mom's of being prostitutes... Just saying... Bryant's mom and her drug use and stuff have been worrisome to a lot of teams and supposedly various teams asked about if she still used drugs. Fair or not they still did... Ireland just took it to another level... >.>

  48. I consider Reshad Jones to be almost like a Gibril Wilson type but with
better hands and a significantly cheaper price tag. He has played both
positions but mostly at SS. But it's hard to completely judge a 2 year
player - he could be better at coverage than he's shown - ultimately I think
the change in scheme will prevent the FS from being caught shallow as we saw
    so many times last year.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jones is a sleeper. I like his Steve Atwater type knockout hits. That's his strength. If he's not a ball hawk, he'll just separate you from the ball. He reminds me of a mix of Atwater and Darren Sharper in that he will lay you out or be in the right place at the right time. This kid is a safety and nothing more. Sharper wasn't as gifted size and speed wise and Jones isn't Atwater in stature or as savvy as Sharper, but there are similarities. Maybe we found a poor man's Atwater/Sharper.
