Jason Taylor....JT....J..e..T?

Jason Taylor has apparently given up on the Dolphins and will sign with the Jets today.* The NY Jets have been going out of their way to impress JT for a couple of weeks now and have been pursuing him for even longer.  The deal may not sit well with many Jets fans, but nothing ever does.

Be positive though Jets fans, as this signing garners a divisional enemy who mustered an impressive 4 tackles and 0.5 sacks in the last 4 games he played against you over the past 3 years.

More info to follow later.

*UPDATE:  One report says the bald one will sign with the Jets today.  Another report says that he will 'provide an answer' to the Jets by Wednesday.  Honestly, this story is way too big and too chaotic for what it is, an over-the-hill, past-his-prime stopgap player who isn't expected to be part of the future for either of the two teams involved.

2nd UPDATE:  It's official, Jason Taylor has agreed to terms with the New York Jets.  R.I.P.

  2. From Salguero/Herald:

Taylor, the source said, sees this move as a separation but not a divorce from South Florida and Miami fans. "Logically, he had to go to Jets," the source said. "But emotionally, his heart is with Dolphins fans."

Yeah, good luck with that when the one jet fan who can read passes this info onto his fellow fans, aka his brothers and sisters and their inbred seed.

  3. I should ave refreshed sooner, just posted about this on your last blog Tin, haha.  Anyway, love what Taylor did for the phins in his career. He'll go down as one of the best ever on our defense. The truth is though, I'm not upset about this. As Tin eluded to, he is old and it's time to move on, plain and simple. The fins have a plan and it didn't include JT, boo hoo. I'm convinced he has carried some sort of curse with him. He leaves, 11-5, comes back, 7-9. I know it wasn't all him of course. I'm just sayin I'm happy the fins can now move on and forget about the drama he brings.

  4. Tinshaker,

I think you nailed it---unnecessary drama for a 36 year old player.  JT was great for this franchise for many years but that was then & this is NOW.  Other than Pat White still being on the roster, I'm totally 'on board' with what Parcells is doing personnel wise.

Does anyone think that Moses can step up & do anything this year?   I've seen flashes but he hasn't had that much playing time.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yes logically he had to go to the Jets since we didn't want him back.  LMAO!!!!  Of all the f#cking teams in the NFL.....I'm a little nauseous.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This sounds right.  We didn't want him back.

"The Jets agreed to terms with Jason Taylor on a two-year, $13 million contract, according to the Miami Herald and ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Forget the $13 million number. Taylor is scheduled to fly into New York Wednesday morning to meet with Jets management and sign what is "essentially" a one-year, $3.75 million contract (after incentives). Taylor has been awfully hesitant to pull the trigger on a deal with the Jets, but he finally came to the realization that the Dolphins just weren't interested in bringing him back. Assuming he finds a better early-down option at outside linebacker (Bryan Thomas is on his way out), Rex Ryan intends to use Taylor as a situational pass rusher, playing 25 snaps per game." 7. He looked good in PS last year but just didn't have much opportunity during the season to even get in the game (I don't think he even played on defense until week 16 or so).

He's one of those 'is he so bad he can't get on the field' vs 'the team sees something in him to keep him around' guys.

Personally I think it's impossible to tell if he's any good without playing him.  Give him a couple of games and let's see what we've got, then either incorporate him into the fold or cut him.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The Dolphins did try to extend him during the 2009 season and he didn't agree to terms then, so it's not like they didn't want him ack, they just wanted him back on their terms.

That's spot on.  It's impossible to tell BUT he has hung around...It would be a great story.

    Tinshaker,

I didn't know that about Taylor.  Then I'm a little confused???

  11. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 1:08 PM

As long as I can change my moniker to 'We Have Pass Rushers' after this draft, I'll forget all about Taylor & feel good about going into this season.

  12. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 1:09 PM

What were their terms???  Play for free & then retire a Dolphin???  I don't get it.  It's not like the Jets broke the bank on him.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am feeling alot nauseous! I have never been a Player person, always the team, but since JT started playing I loved both him and Zach and for many years they were the only bright spots on the team. I know this is a business, but I am really disappointed in how this whole thing went down.

    ReplyDelete
  14. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 1:11 PM

    Slush,

Did you have a little Slush-crush on JT???

    ReplyDelete
  15. little???? he is the only man I would have left my husband for--now that he is a jet I need to find a replacement. ;)   ;)   ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. They offered him an extension in November for another year at $1.5 million and it has been reported that they asked JT to keep his agent out of contract discussions and JT refused.

Then the conspiracy nut that is Armando claimed that JTs playing time went down as a result.  I'm much more of the mindset that the Dolphins never reduced JTs playing time significantly (he was always in games late in the 4th quarter) and that they also wanted to get players like Moses and Walden a little film-time towards the end of the year and it had nothing to do with contract talks (which have nothing to do with the coaches anyway)

    ReplyDelete
  17. who are our pass rushers as of this moment? Peezy and JT are gone so that leaves Wake, Walden (?) and who?? Does Dansby rush or is he more of a run stuffer??

    ReplyDelete
  18. why am I am a guest up there???

    ReplyDelete
  19. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 1:20 PM

The first part of that is interesting.  However, Armando's conspiracy theory is ridiculous.  If his playing time was reduced which I failed to notice, I'm guessing it was probably b/c his body was wearing down from having to start all year.

    ReplyDelete
  20. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 1:22 PM

LOL@Slush.  Don't you worry there's a whole new draft class coming in for you to chose from.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes our OLB position is very thin, and why the Dolphins will most likely use their 1st round pick on a pass-rusher.

Wake, Anderson, Moses, Walden, and Brian Johnston.

The good news is that Cam Wake cannot be kept on the bench by the coaches anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Let's wait til after the draft to dissect our pass rushers. It's not like we have to wait that long! I'm sure Parcells has something stewing in the pot.

I'm with you WHP--other than White, I'm on board with the personel decisions! I'm still holding out that PW just needs a couple years to figure it out and the coaching staff to figure out his niche! The one they tried to carve out for him last year was an absolute abortion and made me question the intelligence of all involved with the entire ordeal.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's BS.  How does their plan not include JT but does include injured AND old players like Fergie and Penny?  Trifecta pissed him off and he got back at them by going to the Jets (per the advice of his agent).  Sure it's a business but there's a right and wrong way to do things and I am seeing much more wrong here.

I am a Fins fan by my loyalty here is with JT.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm basing the JT signing almost entirely on the fact that Hard Knocks for ESPN will be in the Jets locker room ==> Hollywood? I think this is just a way to get to the next step in his career.

Good luck JT, you will be missed but how great will it be to see him go against Long???

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why would the Fins want the agent out of the picture?  That seems a little strange...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Awwwww, I feel bad for slush.

My question is who becomes the new eye candy? That is tough to replace. :'(

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, once we draft Eric Decker, you'll be divorced in no time... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. It is a separation, forever. Traitor!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Do you think Pat White will get a) bigger, b) faster, c) a thousand times more accurate, d) stronger, e) all of the above plus add moves and sparkle to his game that make him a worthwhile contributor and/or future star in the NFL?

The GROWTH he has to go through to even justify a roster spot is unthinkable.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And see Long knock him on his arse...

    ReplyDelete
  31. They did the same thing with Ricky and Ricky complied and got a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They did pay him more than any other team would.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't how their plan doesn't involve JT, but actions speak louder than words. They didn't want him back, or at least wanted to wait til after the draft. He couldn't wait which speaks to his drama behavior. Then he went to the Jets, to quote you"get back at them" again speaks to his drama behavior...see the pattern that Parcells sees?? Go love on JT all you want but facts are facts. A 36 yr old that wasn't drafted by this team and is under different ownership...it's a business suck it up! No player is above the team, I'm always with the fins good or bad! Even more so noiw that Ginn and his family are gone.

Is there any doubt that we're going to take a pass rusher on Thursday???  I guess we COULD take Dan Williams or Earl Thomas but I'd be surprised if we don't.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 2:02 PM

I'm with Tinshaker on Pat White.  I view him as useless & a wasted draft pick.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe for you but not for me...

And that reminds me, the eye candy draft coverage has been almost non existent this year. Last year there was Sanchez, but really he looks like he'd be using your make up the minute your back was turned. *DONT_KNOW*

    ReplyDelete
  41. We supposedly had a contract on the table but he passed on it.....

    ReplyDelete
  42. Completely with you.  Anyone who thinks he really wanted to be here but we refused him has got it wrong.  The stars lined up just right for JT, not only we he star in a TV show, he'll have maximized his audience by going to the div rival!  Genius PR move!

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL, I did post some Decker shirtless photos didn't I?

There just simply aren't any GQ potential in the top of the draft this year....Suh, McCoy, Bradford....these guys aren't going to win any beauty contests anytime soon.

I will make you a promise though, whomever we take with the 12th pick, I'll do my best to get the most explicit photos of them up that night as a combination hazing/appeasing of the ladies.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My theory is that the wait-until-after-draft thing was just to keep other teams unclear about Miami's strong intention to OLBs.  They never intended to make him another offer.

Good riddance.  I've grown weary of his Favre-like act.  Too bad athletes' egos never diminish along with their talent.  Now I hear that after his NYC press conference that he's scheduled a presser in Miami, too. Why?  To tell off Miami or just whine?  Shut up and just go play for the Jets, drama-queen.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He's actually addressing the South Florida media tonight, NY tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  46. zach thomas is on wqam saying that basically the fins didnt offer jt anything.  he wanted to stay here but he wasnt offered anything.  know what jt?  you still suck.  you went to the yets, no excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Okay but put yourself in JT's shoes.  They offered contracts to Fergie (same age plus 8 game suspension) and Penny (3rd major shoulder injury).  I certainly do expect them to go heavy on OLBs in the draft so I can only speculate that their plan is to only play their draft picks at that position.

Also, why the references to the JT drama?  All he did was check the market for his value and to find a team that wanted him.  You can't fault him for that.  He didn't go public like Porter did.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, Ricky is a different story.  I just don't get why they would want to carve the agent out to the point of pulling the contract back if there was one involved.  Just seems fishy to me.  That's like trying to buy a used car and having the dealer pull it back after you asked to have it checked out by a mechanic.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Let's not be too hasty here....what if they somehow end up drafting Cody....Yikes!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Tin BUT I am giving him another year.  Same with Turner.  QB and WR are hard positions to learn and those guys deserve more than one year.  That being said, I'm guessing both of those pics are busts but won't judge that just yet...

    ReplyDelete
  51. hey gang...I give up over there. I really liked that community, but that dude is seriously ill.

Tin, is it ok with you if I continue my draft prediction list over here since you managed to blackball this clown?

I won't post it up til you say it's ok...cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  52. JT isn't even in the same class as Favre with his drama.  He is addressing the S. FL media to keep his ties here and provide communication to the place he calls home.  That's class and honesty, something you rarely find in America these days.  I do understand why the Fins couldn't say aything about it just yet as they have to play poker before the draft...

    ReplyDelete
  53. We Have PlaymakersApril 20, 2010 at 3:43 PM

    Rob,

I wish he would have just retired already.  If we decided to re-sign a guy as broken & beat up as Pennington & then Ferguson who is 37 who will miss the first 8 games due to a suspension, I'd say the writing was on the wall for Taylor.  Great career.  Now hang 'em up.  It's not like he needs the money.  Considering that his shoulder is still not healed, I'd be surprised if his body can hold up another whole season.

I'm really wondering what the hell the Jets are thinking here but then again I don't understand them getting rid of Thomas Jones & bringing in LT???  The Jet fans are still going to hate him.  And also what happened to the Patsies interest in him???

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Ferg and Penny deals are mutually exclusive and should not factor into why or why not make JT wait until after the draft to discuss a deal.

Ferg- will be like a mid-season pick up at NT who can play and knows the postition. He came back at a modest amount. He has a loooong standing relationship with BP and has earned his respect time and time again. Why? That's between them.

Penny- Agreed to come back as the 3rd string QB to get healthy and compete next year somewhere else for a starting job. His relationship with Henne and the fact Henne responds well to him I'm sure factored in too.

JT's drama, let's list some possiblities that would piss off BP:
    1. Dancing with the stars
    2. Turning down a contract extension already (I'm sure that sat real well)
    3. Flirting with the Jets to get a rise out of the Dolphins and increase sense of urgency. (Not a good idea to play chicken with BP.)
    4. Going public with his agent and stating no communication with the Dolphins this off-season. BS, the FO said they communicated exactly where they stood and wanted to wait til after the draft like last year. He already turned them down, they had every right to make him wait.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Im just glad the drama is over. He did do us a favor of finishing this off before draft day though. I always liked JT and cant really see  Ferg being a really good option the last 8 games but at least he will be fresh for the PO run. JT gets more money, big time market, Hard Knocks, and a whole state of sh$tty fans. Good luck to him but the elusive SB ring will pass him by once again. He wont do anything against the line we have.

Quick question though, any thoughts on Smiley? What they will get for him, will he leave now, etc?

  56. Jahndoh, Home is losing his phucken mind on the SS. I didn't even post there today and he's accusing me of being responsible for it all. LOL

I'm sure Tin will allow you to post a pickem contest. I'm not going to post on the SS while the troll crap is at its highest level. You have to find a time when it's quiet and just a few people talking football (draft).

I'm posting as various Rolando McClain's on the SS. I started that last night to expose who the troll was. I changed my avatar and all my posts picked up the new image leaving the troll with his image. It's a decent way to fight back a little bit.

I won't be posting there much during the draft because he's gonna try to ruin it. Post on Tin's site. It's much more civil and coherent and he's a good guy. The more people who come here the more of a flow this blog will take on. I don't know why more don't just come here. No trolls!  8-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. You made the sensible move Jahndoh.

    ReplyDelete
  58. yeah, thanks fellas. I know Tin's a good guy for sure. Though I think he's wrong about the number 12 pick ;)

I agree he's lost his mind. There's some guy over there with "King (something)" screename and he thinks it's you so he hijacked my name and pic to start cut and pasting spam to fore King (something) to leave...too funny. I really feel bad for the guy, he's obv a finfan so I've always been willing to forgive and move on, but he just seems to be in a death spriral right now. I hope he works his stuff out.

    Cheers all.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think the way I wrote that post was a little misleading. "other than white" meant I don't understand the PW pick. Never have and never will. He did however have an outstanding college career. His ability to win consistently has to be good for something. Tin, your right, he has to overcome a lot to be a star, but like Dawgg, I'm giving him another year to show me something.

My gut says bust unfortunately. We should have went defense with that pick, namely, Connor Barwin!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hey man, I saw a post from "Japmen" over on the SS with a draft prediction (hughes) was this you?

  62. That isn't Homelooneytoon he's be crying about how Omar and Tin are jealous of him because they banned him for speaking the truth. It's some other lonely freak.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah, I was having problems with Gravitar but they are all worked out now(lol bad timing I see). Hughes is my pick. Depending on how the first 11 plays out we have a decent chance to move back and I think they like Hughes really well. If we cant move back though Id say Graham's the best pick. Im still going for Hughes though lol.

    ReplyDelete
  64. BTW, in no way to lend any credence to what he is doing, but what did you ever do to tick him off?  Not that there needs to be one, and fwiw, I've always found you to be fair...debate without resulting to insults/personal attacks.

Also, I did check out the 'fake blog' once last week and was honored to be included with you and the rest in the 'worst fan' contest!  Pretty good company as far as I'm concerned!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Even if it's not him, no one knows because he's been a troll for so long. Im 99% sure it is him. They have obvious problems with security at the SS and it can be hard to deal with his crap on top of their horrible format.

  72. Japman, I've been high on Hughes but in the 20's IFFF we were to move down that farr!!
I was actually hoping he'd fall to the 2nd when we had one,(though I knew he wouldn't fall that farr)!!

I personally prefer not to drop below SFs 17,but I'd be OK w'JH there/later IFFF BG ,DW, McC, and ET are gone!!
THOUGH IFFF we take ET, we don't get an OLB OR NT till @least the 3rd and the other in the 4th,SCARY!!!

    @12, I'll be STOKED w'BG,DW!! W'an extra pk or two I'll be STOKED w'McC,ET,JP-P,SK,and JH among other's!!
We PRESENTLY have a few gyz that can respectfully rotate @ NT, I wouldn't say the same @OLB!!

I'll be miffed IFFF we don't jump OLB in the 1st @ whatever number pk!!!
Otherwise, I'd guess that through daily regime confession
the Lords of Miami have witnessed MOSES suddenly walking on water,
or perhaps they see him rideing Cameron's WAKE to the QB???

  76. 13 I didn't say they would be 0 and 3. I said an 0 and 3 start will spell plenty of trouble.  I'm hoping for 3 and 1 start.  But judging by the past 2 years who knows ?  One thing I will say and you can take this however you like.  We need to win the games we are expected to win.  Going 4 and 2 in our own division will put allot of pressure on the division foes. Along with blowing away the Bears, Raiders, Browns, and Lions gets us half way home.  Pull out 2 more wins over the good teams and I think were in the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  77. @HM vs a discombobulated Pitt, Oct @Cinn, HM vs Tenn there's possibly 11??? Including your diagnosis!!
And we go to GB after a bye week,(after a bye wk usually has competetive results)!!

Yeaaa, get off STRONG/EARLY vs the stiff portion of our schedule!!
WK 1 @Buff should have us feeling pretty confident,
and Favre will only have about 2 practices in b/4 facing us in wk 2!!

Then we have PRIME-TIME inner-division games back-to-back @HOME vs uknowhos...
    PLACE'LL BE A ROCKIN HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE!!!   WOOOO HOOOOOOOOO GOFINS :-P :-P :-P :-D !!!

The Raven's and division games are the only one's that scare me,(considering the above)!!

We'll be HEAVY favorite's in 6 of the last 8!!!

  80. Holy Geez! The Miami media is declaring that the sky is falling because JT is a Jet and that he will come back to haunt us! Please, give it a rest already. He got 8 sacks last year, half of those against the Bills! The intel he provides the Jets is negligible because Miami has a real Defensive Coordinator now and new philosophy unbeknownst to JT. Speaking of Nolan, he must surely have presented a convincing masterplan to Bill, Jeff and Tony some time ago, and one that didn't include JT!

30 other teams didn't want JT?? Come on! JT joining the Jets shows how sour a grape can get on his part. JP showed much the same mentality on his way out! Come to think of it, it's addition by subtraction, PassTheBaloney, JP, GW, Ginn and JT ...GONE! Time to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Why this logic is flawed:
    1. Dancing with the stars
Why you gotta bring up old shit?  And they already resgined him AFTER this happened so it really shouldn't be a factor at this point.  He already proved he was ready to play football and not yet jump to Hollywood

    2. Turning down a contract extension already (I'm sure that sat real well)
Again, why would they ask his agent not be involved?  Would you buy real estate without an appraiser?  If you would then I have a fine piece of land I'd love to sell you!

    3. Flirting with the Jets to get a rise out of the Dolphins and increase sense of urgency. (Not a good idea to play chicken with BP.)
How arrogant do you think this front office is?  If your contract expired and you don't have an offer from that company, should you sit around and wait hoping for one or go find a job?  This could also be viewed as determining his market value.  Either way, Sparano said JT was doing what he needed to do.  If the Fins can do their due diligence, so can JT.  This shouldn't be a double standard.

    4. Going public with his agent and stating no communication with the Dolphins this off-season. BS, the FO said they communicated exactly where they stood and wanted to wait til after the draft like last year. He already turned them down, they had every right to make him wait.
You missed the point here.  THe Fins did say where they stood (perhaps will talk after the draft).  JT & his agent said they did not hear from the Fins yet (which is true).  If they had, they would be in negotiations so it's not like they spilled the beans here.

This is hardly drama, just business negotiations.  The media may have maniuplated it to make you believe there was drama but if you look at the facts, it just business.  For an example of drama, please read up on Joey Porter.

  82. Good points NcDolfan & Tin.  But reality is we don't have Barwin on the roster and JT would really help this team for one more year.  As much as we all like Wake, we have no idea if he's really ready yet.  Personally, I think the Fins made the decision to go young no matter what and they really had very little if any intention to resign JT.  I also wonder if JT wanted to be a 3rd down specialist period.  Especially after having to play the strong side run stopper last year.  The Fins obviously couldn't commit to that not knowing who they were going to draft.

  83. My two sense worth, I always ignored him and skipped his posts.  However, those who responded to him (i.e. paid attention to him) were rewarded with his extreme psycho!  He fees on attention, plain and simple.  We've all see people like that and it's best to just ignore them.

I stopped posting on the SS board months ago. I have tried to go back a few times but it's just not worth it.  I might do a live chat but I'd much rather stay here where the trolls are banned and the discussions are intelligent!

I just read Armando's blog & the sooner we draft a pass rusher the better.  I'm still not sure why Taylor was so hell bent on playing this year???  He wanted to play so badly that he'd go play for the Jets???  There is nothing good that can come from JT playing in NY as far I'm concerned.  He's a Dolphin & if we didn't sign him after the draft then he should have retired a Dolphin.  That's just my opinion but I also don't have a family to feed.  Right Latrell Sprewell???  LOL!!!

All I know is that if we beat the Jets in Week 3, I won't care about this media circus BUT if we lose & JT has a big game (unlikely) or makes a big play, I'll be extremely pissed off.

Oh yeah the draft is tomorrow...I almost forgot since JT's drama has distracted me.

I still think Earl Thomas is too small & I'd be very, very surprised if we took him.  IMO--It's down to Kindle, Morgan, or Graham.  My guess is still Kindle.

I was going to leave this alone but I just read Zach Thomas' quotes & he's right about one thing--Parcells & Ireland shouldn't have left Taylor dangling about whether they wanted him back or not.  I don't think it's right to tell a Hall of Fame player that we'll let you know after the draft what we're going to do.  If we didn't want him back then we should have told him that we're going in another direction.

And as for not letting Zack have his press conference on the way out, I don't like it.  Zack is a stud that played his guts out for the Dolphins & never said a bad word one way or the other.  To hear him complain about the way he was treated makes me angry.  IMO--Certain players like Zack & JT who were warriors for this franchise deserve better.

Here's some old Dolphins comedy to lighten everbody's mood...LMAO!!!

"The NFL Blog Network is sharing some of its favorite tales from the draft room. Here's one of the funnier ones you might not have heard ...

Within an NFL draft room, we envision the organization's brain trust engaging in passionate discussions about every prospect on their draft board. The exchange of information is thorough. The decisions made are educated. They are absolute.

Then there was the year Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula, upon being asked a question by a reporter, turned to his personnel chief and whispered incredulously "Did we draft a blind guy?"

No, the Dolphins didn't draft a blind guy in 1993. But in his annual draft preview, influential Pro Football Weekly draftnik Joel Buschbaum had printed an erroneous report Virginia running back Terry Kirby was blind in his right eye and the Kirby had difficulty catching passes over his right shoulder.

The Dolphins selected Terry Kirby with the 78th pick.

Shortly after Shula entered his post-draft news conference, he was asked about Buschbaum's report. Shula's knees nearly buckled as he asked director of player personnel Tom Heckert what they'd just done.

Shula's heart rate returned to normal when team physician Dan Kanell, who examined Kirby at the combine, assured the coach Kirby had perfect vision in his left eye and 20/40 sight in his right eye, not poor enough to require glasses let alone special instructions for Dan Marino to throw to Kirby only in the right flat."

  88. True about Zach except for one thing - if ZT wasn't planning on retiring then and there as a Dolphin, why would the Dolphins let him use their facility for a press conference?  JT had one at his office - why didn't Zach have one at another location?

I think fans in general forget that an NFL team is an employer and the players are employees.  Once the employee is fired/let go/traded they don't get to use the company car anymore...also players take the loyalty thing a bit far.  In most jobs after 25 years you get a cheap watch.  Yet NFL players expect a life-long commitment from the team after they play there for 7 years.  There's also the factor that 95% of the people in the office have changed in the last 3 years.  New Owner, new VP, new GM, new HC, new CEO, new Community Relations guy, new PR guy, new CFO, etc.

  89. I was going to leave this alone too, but here's my thoughts for what they're worth. Zach, JT, Madison and Surtain were the heart of the Fins D for a lot of years and gave a lot of fans a lot of pleasure. Of course, teams move on and players have to be replaced when their performance drops off. We now have 2 new corners, a new Zach replacement in Dansby and it's time for (q)Wake to step up and a new draftee (or 2) to lead the charge to rip Brady's head off. Everyone here seems to be trying to find fault. In truth, both sides are at fault. I thought it was a bit disingenous of JT to say he needs to feed his family (unless he has a couple of thousand kids the size of Cody to fill) and I also think the Fins should have been more slick from a PR point of view. They don't want to tip their hand in the draft and they want to keep their options open, but what's generated ALL this fuss (and where I diverge from your position a little Here Tin) is that we are all FANS of the Dolphins, and their great players past and present take on a larger than life persona. The links with players (unlike ex-employees in industry) stay for a long time and sometimes until death. There is the ring of honour, the perfect 72s, Marino etc etc. They are all faces of the franchise, part of the brand and part of the histroy. It is a bad move to damage that brand and that's what the Fins have done with Zach and JT in a lot of fans eyes. I think the Trifecta scored an own-goal on their handling of both these issues and JT followed the money, the limelight and extended his career. Both brands will survive, both will be slightly damaged but life goes on. Some people will hate JT and consider him a traitor and others will thank him for the memories (9 Tds - did TGJ get that many?!?). Anyway, thank goodness for the draft - at least the froth will settle very quickly on this and we'll all be looking in the opposite direction in 24 hours time.

  91. ...its not just the trolls over there ...the whole SS page has taken a nose dive over the past year ...it used to be my Dolphins home page but now its just a mess ...I come here to catch the important stuff now ...don't share all of Tin's peculiar views but he keeps a nice clean board and attracts a well balanced audience that provides a lot of different perspectives.
