Old Dolphins are hard to put down

While I wasn't surprised that Vonnie Holliday won the poll for which former Dolphins player/current free agent you guys would be most interested in signing, I didn't expect it to be such a landslide.

Vonnie Holliday: 70%
Sam Madison: 8%
Patrick Surtain: 20%
Jesse Chatman: 7%

I'm sure it has to do more with the fans' feeling a bit unsure about the current personnel on the defensive line than Holliday being more of a fan favorite than, say, Sam Madison. Although, despite the seemingly deep secondary, former Dolphin cornerback, Patrick Surtain, managed a respectable second place.

But I suspect a lot of the uncertainty about certain positions result from exposure to the negativity of the South Florida media. This month they've been pretty down on Philip Merling, and that must be affecting fans' confidence. And it's a fickle thing, because despite our 2009 obsession with finding a back-up/eventual replacement for Jason Ferguson at nose tackle, it wasn't that long ago that the media was trashing Ferguson as well for having an unrespectable year, at least stats wise. Now they are trashing Ronnie Brown's accomplishments and talents, despite him finally making a name for himself in 2008, becoming a household name and making the pro-bowl.

Don't expect this somber mood to dissipate, as once Training Camp begins, the annual Jason Allen dump-a-thon will resume, as well as the start of the First Annual Pat White Golf Cart Passing Jamboree. But despite the negativity, we will all still have fun discussing, watching, and supporting our favorite team. One thing you can rest assured on, my favorite team, and the ONLY team I support, is the Miami Dolphins. Go Fins!

You are right Tin, it seams that the local media IS really down on the Dolphins this year. It's like we didn't win the AFC East last year and go to the playoffs.  We were lucky due to a "soft" schedule, won a lot of close games (which in their minds I guess we should have lost?) and didn't sign any BIG names in the off season to excite them and make their jobs easier selling papers. So of course we will be lucky if we win 7-8 games this year.  I CALL BS!

Man, last year they were telling us we would be lucky to win 4-5 games.  Goes to show you how much Omar, Armondo, Hyde, Edgar and the rest of them actually know about football.  But sinse they are the ONLY access to information (other than you of course Tin) that we have we will continue to read thier bs.

By the way, I made hamburgers for dinner last night and had some KK's left over from the morning so I tried one of the elusive KK bacon cheese burgers.  ONE BITE is all it took.  Really gross.  My wife thought I was crazy, and perhaps I was / am.  Maybe I should have had 2-3 white russians out of my sippy cup first.

  2. Agree completely.  Although I can get pretty thirsty for some of that Dolphin Kool-Aid, I try to keep it fairly balanced.  Some folks are just bitter bitter bitter.  I live here in Cali, and I'm always fighting for a spot at the bar and a T.V. to watch the games.  I think as fans we should all take a step back and (sounds cheesey) realize we are at a unique point in dolphins history.  Hopefully this new trend of improvement will result in a Super Bowl win, but I'd settle for a pissed off fighting team, not the ineptitude we've been witnessing for a while.
On a side note Tin, really enjoy this blog of yours, keep it up!  When I go downstairs to hop on the computer, my wife rolls her eyes and says I'm off to "Dolphins Anonymous".  But all is well as she gets to wear her JT jersey again!

Oh, wow, maybe I should put a 'do not try this at home' disclaimer under the
    photo before someone hurts themselves....

  5. Tin this was a stupid poll.  Why didn't you just include Marino on the list?  The part that doesn't make any sense is that you didn't expect it to be a landslide.  Chatman - please, Surtain/Madison both over the hill with nothing left in the tank.

  6. Vonnie is a good player and a class act but (possible steroid tests aside), does bodybuilding shape equate to what you need to be an NFL DE?  I thought they had to cut weight to get the thin skin necessary to show off muscle structure.  I took  When I took him in pumping iron shows as the same as hanging up the cletes.  Trainig camp is a week away.  Maybe I'm wrong (don't know that much about it).

"and the ONLY team I support, is the Miami Dolphins." And any team Beckham plays for.  :-P

Tin, on the poll of who will get cut before training camp it says 53 have voted yet the actual votes add up to over 100.

My guess is the two players that don't make it to training camp are the ones who aren't in shape and just can't hack it.

LOL, well there really isn't any way for us to make an informed opinion because we have no idea where these players are at and what the coaches think about them at this time. So the guys who faint when doing the 300 yard shuttle are out!  >:o

    shape.

  12. I know exactly where Brandon London is, and believe me, I would not be
surprised if he's vomiting on the field on day one.

Every year someone isn't in good enough shape. Wasn't Julius Wilson cut because he wasn't in good enough shape?

So where is Brandon London, Alaska enjoying the cool crisp air? LOL

  19. Many fans think the Dolphins will fold up like a step ladder this year.  I think the AFC east will be a real dog fight.  Every team has weaknesses, which team manages them the best will come out on top.  Because of the head coach at NE, they will get the nod as the "experts " look at this division.  Which is what we are seeing at this time.  The fact is they know no more than we do.
