What's Going On Here?

For the last two weeks, the bloggers in the mainstream media (is that an oxymoron?) have been quoting players saying that they have not signed or started negotiating contracts. I read somewhere today that Jeff Ireland stated that everyone would be signed by Training Camp and that negotiations would start to pick up soon.

At one point, Mike Berardino (sun-sentinel) spoke with JD Folsom, who said that they were still working on negotiating a deal, then it came out that JD had actually worked out that deal and signed the day before. So, the question is, if the Dolphins don't release the information, does that mean it hasn't happened? Like the tree falling in the woods question. For the record, if a tree falls in the woods, there is always SOMEONE there to hear it. Whether it be human or squirrel.

Anyway, I bring this up because today Berardino blogged about Anthony Fasano and his 'people' having not even discussed a new contract at this point. Now keep in mind that NFL rules state that a player cannot renegotiate his contract within 365 days of his previous negotiation. Since he was traded to Miami in late April, it's possible that he didn't actually sign a new contract until May/June, so he couldn't negotiate a new contract until then. That said, I find it almost iimpossible to believe that these agents for these players have not even DISCUSSED their contracts at all at this point. The reason I have for this is that I have worked on many contracts in my own line of work, and before they are signed, it generally takes a month or more of sending multiple revisions back and forth between agents/lawyers/general managers/V.P.s/players. It's not like they can get from first meeting to signed copy in a week.

Another reason I'm conflicted on what to believe is that I still have two sources, including one very close to Pat White, sticking by their story that White has indeed come to terms with Miami, despite it not being released to the media since I first reported it in early June. It's possible they are BSing me, but it's also possible, and just as probable if not more, that the team is BSing the media.

  5. Well, the league has to approve all the contracts don't they?  Maybe that is what the hold up is.  Maybe both sides have agreed, but until it gets through the review, it isn't a 'done deal'.

    New Jersey.

Yeah it only takes me about 3 days to get to Tin's house. I hate it when he asks to borrow some sugar and then he asks if I could bring it by.  >:o

As for what I do for a living, I melt little lead figurines into bullets for the end times revolution that is coming.  :-P

But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, at that moment I was a marine biologist. </span>

  16. no s?  How do I get A T & T software onto an unlocked european cell phone?  I managed to get the medianet and voicemail, etc working, but the phone still has the original network software/UI on it and I'd like to get rid of that and have the A t & T stuff on it.

    ;)

  21. ...wouldn't surprise me a bit that PW's contract is a done deal ...but they can't announce it because the final numbers are dependent on say, some magic formula derived from the median signing contracts of those drafted +/- 10 spots around him ...the deal is done but the numbers are not ...but the negotiations are over and a contract has been signed ...that would fit your insider info and the fin's public stance as well.

...I do agree with you re contract negotiations ...been there way too many times ...you know there are drafts floating back and forth, no one EVER signs the first draft :)

  22. ...indeed! ...who WOULD have thought! :-P

  23. One can come to terms and still not have a contract.  In the home building business this happens all the time.  Many times back in my old days of building homes we would agree to build a home for a certain price and not sign a contract untill we had a down payment.
We figured why waste time if there was no money on the table.

In the case of PW as people above have said an agreement may have been reached and not signed because of outside reasons.  So both sides are correct.  They have came to terms and no contract has been signed at this time.  Mr. Obvious signing off :) .

  24. 95th pk  S Rashad Johnson has signed..

So I'd think that once the $$ amounts are announced,we'd have a ballpark figure for pks 87 PT,and 108 BH,(though WR is the higher paid position),those in b/t should begin signing @ a rapid-fire pace shortly..
@least that's how it usually goes to some extent, someone had to begin the framework, wish it were a reciever..

Az's not usually a big spender,so hopefully the price is relatively low..

  27. FANG,did TIN give you my E-mail address??

    ReplyDelete
  28. I haven't seen it if he did, but I will blow things away i'm sure of opening.  I would how ever open an email from him, so my thoughts are he has not sent it at this time.  I'm sure he has enough to do though and worrying about us would be last on his mind.  Don't worry we will get together one way or another before camp starts.  In the mean we'll just have to remind him to pass the addresses to each other.

  29. what are you guys talking about? did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  30. We both live in the same city 100 miles north of Miami and we wanted to get together and go see a practice.  The only way for us to put that together is through emails.  But we don't have each others email address but you do.  So we are asking you to send each of us the others address without posting it on an open site.  I guess you missed the post earlier in the week that asked you about doing so.  I think phinfan also lives to our south a bit and I was wondering if he wanted to go also but as far as I know he didn't say anything about tagging along, so we don't know about him.  That's what you missed.

  33. TIN,My e-mail add is in my profile(updated 2nght),don't you have access to that,or do I still need to directly e-mail you??

And IF everybody has access to that,I should probably delete it!!??
I thought that would give you my add to forward, and I actually thought that the site operator would have access to my add in the 1st place,(guess it doesn't work like that)..

I'll just directly e-mail you,but would like to know if I should remove my add from my profile.. Was hoping not to bother you outside of here!!
