Brian Cushing at # 25, Baby!

02/10/09 - NFL Draft Scout Fallers: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC: By most accounts Cushing was among the more impressive linebackers throughout the week of practice at the Senior Bowl. Rather than focusing on his athleticism and instincts on the field, however, scouts in the stands were buzzing about reports that Cushing spends thousands of dollars a month on nutritional supplements. While no one is claiming Cushing's supplements should be confused with illegal steroids, it does raise questions about how maxed out Cushing might be -- questions that could push the All-American down the board considering the top-end talent this year at linebacker. - Rob Rang, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com

  1. Tin, are you being sarcastic or do you like Cushing at #25 for us? We'll know more after the combine but he is a good LB prospect. He can probably play all 4 positions at LB in our 3-4 defense.

  2. If you haven't noticed, I've chosen Cushing as my pin cushing, er I mean cushion.
    s
The guy is the highest profile draft prospect with the most colourful off-the-field issues, so it makes for good fodder.
    s
I didn't even touch the fact that he was in a 'white power' facebook group with Shane Matthews.s
    s
You have to admit, that anyone as obsessed with posing for these kinds of photos, kind of deserves any ribbing he gets.s Also, I was unaware of the 'supplement' story, and if its true it might cause him to drop in the draft making him more accessible.

  3. Okay, I figured as much. So you'd like him for us in the 2nd round if he drops, but probably not in the 1st?
    s

    s
    What's up with that?

  4. I'm thinking if he is spending thousands on 'supplements' now, he is a risk to go further with it.s I mean, isn't that the rumor on him, that he already has?s
    s
He would give us lots to talk about though!

Nice job on fixing things Tinshaker.s I feel sorry for your significant other/wife/girlfriend(or all 3 of them!) if you spent VDay weekend working on this blog!s Hopefully a quick fix!

  5. Matthews and a lot of the USC players of caucasian descent started a white power facebook group.s They claim it was a 'inside joke'.s

  6. It was Clay Matthews. I read up on it. It sounded like they were tagged that name by a black player saying that the special teams was 'white nation' because most of them were white. I don't think it was anything racist. Stupid, yes, but not hardcore racism. The prop idea of the black baby in handcuffs was dumb.

I haven't actually seen the picture, have you?

  7. I didn't spend anytime on V-day on the blog, herdfan.s That time was devoted to Madden and NCAA football!
    s
Seriously though, I spent half the day having my brakes fixed at Les Schwab.s We also had terrible weather including 50mph winds and heavy rain.s Nice margarita, btw.

  9. It should be said that all these little things are barely mentionable and are nothing compared to arrests, suspensions, benchings, injuries, etc.s But it should also be noted that when several, and I'm being kind using the word 'several' of these 'little things' get mentioned in the context of one player, then you have to be aware of it as a scout/coach.s And as a fan, you have to question the motives and IQ of the player.

  10. I know all these players more than a bit of ego going on, but seriously, to have your own poster on the wall is bizarre.s Of course, I don't have my own poster.s Maybe if I did, I might feel differently.

  11. Good grief, Madden?s Nothing says love like that.
    s
I'm wondering if Cushing is able to fully extend his arms.s I don't think I have seen a photo of him that isn't this same exact pose!
    s
I love the margarita.s It's a bit small, by my standards.s I go for the grande size x 2 every Friday at our fav Mexican place here.s A Friday ritual, 6pm.s We are getting a new software package at work, and I'm in training all week.s I'm already looking forward to Friday.s Is that wrong?

  13. Who's Shane Matthews?s Where did I get that name from?s *DONT_KNOW*

  14. To be fair to pin cushion, I don't think the photo is of his own wall....looks like a gym somewhere.

  15. I will however say that the combination of a beanie cap, a camo 'rare breed' t-shirt and athletic shorts with his number on them is a possible cry for help from a personal stylist.

  16. This update from Kent on a certain free agent:
    s

    s
Poor Kent works for THE MAN and they block his computer from posting comments.s The good news is that he works for Bank of America, so he'll be unemployed soon and can comment from home...j/k Kent!
    s
Personally I never thought the Dolphins would be interested in Haynesworth or anyone at that price tag.s Jacksonville's defense was awful last year and just might bite.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good point about Jacksonville and Haynesworth, plus they do value big DT with their twin towers.
    s
THE MAN is responsible for all our problems, not just kents lack of ability to comment
    s
Cushing is huge, he does seem a bit full of himself, which could be good for a LB. Sometimes rookie LB's don't buy into the whole study part of the game. Thinking they can rely on the physical ability that got them there. I wouldn't have a problem with drafting Mr.Cushles

    ReplyDelete
  18. The problem with Cushing is he's always banged up. Other than that he can do a lot on the football field. He can probably play every LB position and some rush end when we go to 4 down linemen. He's an impact player but his injury-prone past might knock him down in the draft. Maybe the 2nd round.
    s
There was a USC game when Carroll was asked, "will Cushing play and he said, if he can go we have to get him out there, he's a beast."

  19. Bungle, I should put you on timeout for quoting that C-word!
    s
I hate him so much!! grrr!

  21. Carroll.

Oh, but that reminds me.s I watched some NFL network last night (I'm really PO'd because my tivo is failing due to stormy weather) and they had ads for 'Path to the Draft' where they follow some big name players through the process, and the first one I saw was Brian Cushing.ss I almost vomitted my sushi.

  22. Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Finding the time and actual effort to
    produce a really good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a
lot and never manage to get anything done.
